An Interview With God (2018)
Director: Perry Lang
Writer: Ken Aguado
I feel crazy. I watched this with my folks not knowing who the stars are, and if the person to be interviewed by the journalist "claiming to be God" was a terrorist or something. It was the only thing we haven't seen besides Halloween, which we would never watch.
When the movie started we learned that GIVING FILMS was one of the producers/ distributors, and that meant that this movie was made for promulgation of the faith. Giving Films is a non-profit organization.
Oh, while we were looking at the cast(when we reached the cinema area of Alabang Town Center), of course we recognized DAVID STRATHAIRN's name. He's a man who played all types of roles, from the kindest to the vilest.
BRENTON THWAITES is also no stranger to us. We have seen him in many movies like GOD'S OF EGYPT(I watched this primarily because of Gerard Butler, but I didn't blog about this), MALEFICENT, PIRATES OF THE CARRIBEAN: DEAD MEN TELL NO TALES a.k.a. Salazar's Revenge, THE GIVER and so many more.
"Hmm, this could be interesting."
So we purchased the tickets even if we didn't know what to expect.
After the movie we talked over dinner. Dad and mom liked it very much. Me? I had to ponder a bit more.
I couldn't help it. I compared it with the Oh, God trilogy, Bruce Almighty, Evan Almighty, and many, many others where God showed Himself, looking like an ordinary human being. God was even a She in Dogma...wait, that's not even remotely similar to this.
Some even say that the Oh, God! trilogy is not even Christian...New Age even...
What do I think? Well, those movies, I mean, the Oh, God? trilogy starring George Burns as God(the third one with Ted Wass, Mr. Burns was both God and the devil), and both Evan & Bruce Almighty with Morgan Freeman as God, all showed us the importance of a personal relationship with God.
This movie, although different, is somehow similar to those movies aforementioned.
David Strathairn had a very commanding performance, as always(👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏), but it was Mr. Thwaites that impressed us the most. We believe that it was the first time we saw him like this, giving his all, even if he knew this was non-profit, and was only going to have a very limited release.
His marriage to Sarah(YAEL GROBGLAS) was failing, and he blamed himself and his being in Afghanistan. PTSD is a serious matter. He helped his friend, Matty(voice only), by giving him a number his boss(HILL HARPER) and friend gave him, and for that he was very grateful, but he did not want to help himself. If you have PTSD, don't be afraid to ask for help. You are not alone.
Grace(CHARLBI DEAN KRIEK), his ______, tries to comfort him, but to no avail.

Afterthoughts:
- Some say this is a very preachy movie. Maybe it is. Maybe it isn't.
- The people behind us said that this is a series. I have to check that out.
- It is well-acted and well-directed. The music is suitable too.
- The story? Nothing really totally new, but I like how it was presented.
Thanks a bunch for your time.
