Sid & Aya: NOT A LOVE STORY (2018)

Image
Soundtrack The movie is highly recommended by two of my friends with impeccable taste and some others  Maybe NOT A TYPICAL LOVE STORY is a better tag line, but it's too long, I guess, because this is indeed a love story.  NOT A LOVE STORY made it more intriguing and I bet a lot of people watched this because of that very reason. Others were debating(softly, but within earshot) a while ago inside the theatre. One said that Sid said that before seeing Aya again and the other was disagreeing.   You might ask, "Did they part?" Seeing another person again has many meanings.  It could mean the same day or whatever, so I won't answer your question.  You have to see the movie yourself or search the net for people who love giving the story away.   What I can say is that I am adding Irene Emma Villamor to my favourite Writers and Directors list because she knows how to intrigue people and she knows how to tell a very good story and make i...

Last Night (R-13?) 2017

Image
( source ) ( source ) Was it because of the "suicide" theme?  Is that the reason why they rated it R-13?  Maleficent is more traumatic than this movie and there are many animated films that gave children and adults alike sleepless nights, so I don't get it.  Why give this that kind of rating?  The movie is actually refreshing.  It could have "landed" sooner than later, but notwithstanding the prolonged scenes, the movie gives a light giddy feeling inside. I was warned that it had a "twist", but it was not what I expected the twist would be.  It wasn't the first time that one of the characters was like "that", but it was a bit different.  Bela is indeed a raconteur extraordinaire , and I would surely watch her other screenplays in the future, with or without her. The acting is good and so is the direction, but I'll leave everything else to the experts:   REVIEW: ‘Last Night’ is dark, mysterious, and captivating MOV...

The movie's tagline:  "The greatest luckiest love story ever told." A young gambler named Joma Labayen believes in lucky charms that would help him win big in casinos. He crosses paths with Diane who seems to bring him luck whenever they are close to each other. However, Diane refuses to believe that she has anything to do with this so called “life charm” at first but after a while, she eventually gave in to Joma’s wishes. As they grow closer together, they develop romantic feelings for each other, but this kind of closeness might ruin the luck they’ve been enjoying together. - Fandango Directed by: Dan Villegas  Category: Romance/Comedy/Drama Theme Song composed by: Rico Blanco Theme Song sung by: Zia Quizon in a nutshell: We did not imagine that we would find ourselves watching and enjoying this movie, but we did.   Stephanie Mayo described this movie as well-acted, but flimsy, and I somehow agree with her .  As a sister of "special" people,...

Bonifacio, Ang Unang Pangulo (2014-MMFF Entry)

Image
#BonifacioAngUnangPangulo #BuhayinAngRebolusyon #MMFF2014 Andres Bonifacio: Myths, trivia, execution FULL LIST: Winners, MMFF 2014 awards night Whether this is the real story or not, this movie deserves the honor for being the BEST PICTURE.  The story is beautifully weaved and even if there are debates about the events and about the great grand father of my friends, it is very believable.   If this is going to be the only  basis of our history, I would not question it at all.  It is very, very convincing.    The script and the acting are very superb.  It is a true team effort.  The problem is, there are a lot of versions written by different historians that would disprove this, but then again, that was what the curator(Eddie Garcia) was trying to convey to the students.   Most of the history books got it wrong, according to him . I wanted to enjoy the movie so I set aside everything I learned from history.  I like h...

10,000 Hours

Image
From imdb This movie is loosely based on the life story of former Senator Ping Lacson who is now the rehabilitation czar of the places that were slaughtered by Super Typhoon Yolanda aka Haiyan. 10,000 HOURS is an action-packed thinkers movie.  When I watched this movie, I set aside the fact  that it was based on the former senator's plight and treated it as a pure work of fiction.  Still, with a few hitches, it was as real as real could be.  The scenes in Amsterdam brought me to the edge of my seat.  It was if I was a real bystander or perhaps, a stalker, watching everything while it is happening. Probably because of the familiar places, et cetera . Yes, it was not perfect, but it deserved its best picture award compared to the other movies that are playing in this year's MMFF. Robin Padilla is not just an action star, but is also a very good actor.  He is very convincing as the young looking Senator Gabriel Alcaraz whose q...
