Non-Stop (2014) R-13

Image
When we entered the cinema after mom bought her dress for tonight's event(my dad's classmate's 80th birthday at the Marriott ), I had no idea what it was about.  As a person born with itchy feet (I love to travel) , if I had known that this was a movie about the prevention of hijacking or the like, I wouldn't have watched it.  I've seen enough flicks to traumatize me.  For one reason or another, I was not able to read any advertisement about this and I was not given the chance to see the trailer. Sigh.  Anyways, I just sat back, relaxed, and tried to enjoy the film. Anyways, if you have read my so-called reviews or non-reviews, you would know I would not be writing about this if I totally hated it.  Yes, even if I believe that Liam Neeson is sort typecast for this type of roles,  I did like this film and even enjoyed it.  Yes, you read it right.  I enjoyed it.  I liked little Becca( McColgan ) best.  I don't know how old she was supposed to be, but I

Interrupted Melody (1955) Via TCM

Let me tell you a secret. My first Hollywood crush when I was a young girl of four was Glenn Ford.  It was not the romantic type of crush. I think even if I claim that the first romantic one was four years later, I believe my first romantic crush was at eleven(he was sixteen)...I still see him around...he is very happy with his wife and he has two almost grownup children...Do I still like him? As a person, I do, but nothing romantic...I also realized at fifteen that he was not my type at all.   Now back to Glenn Ford...Yes, I noticed that he was handsome and had very expressive eyes(yes, even at four, I've noticed that), but I just admired him and watched reruns or old movies that had him as a star or as an actor.  He also had a very comforting smile and he was such a charmer. INTERRUPTED MELODY is one of my favorites of his.  As Tom,  the very loving husband of Marjorie(Eleanor Parker), he was very endearing. I love the songs and the way they were sung here.

Dead Fall (2012) via Cinemax

Image
http://cinemaxasia.com/Cinemax/en-ph/shows/deadfall-2012-1014884/ From imdb :A thriller that follows two siblings who decide to fend for themselves in the wake of a botched casino heist, and their unlikely reunion during another family's Thanksgiving celebration. Director:   Stefan Ruzowitzky Writer:   Zach Dean Even the most thwarted soul has an iota of goodness in them.  Yes, I truly believe that.  Addison(Bana) is a very caring brother and no matter how twisted his ideals are, he, in his own way, protects children. When he and Liza(Wilde) were little he protected Liza and that's the very reason why she looked up to him. This movie is about families and relationships: 1)A loving family with a slight problem, but nothing they cannot handle together; 2)A family with an abusive step father; 3)A love hate relationship between a father and a daughter in the same line of business; 4)And good sibling relationship that went wrong along the way.

Starting Over Again (2014 movie)

Image
Some time ago last year, Toni Gonzaga and Piolo Pascual started to film UNLOVE YOU, which eventually evolved into this now mega blockbuster hit, STARTING OVER AGAIN. I was supposed to watch this with my closest friends Pia, Inggie and Eise, but because of unavoidable circumstances and my being indisposed, our barkada  date was cancelled. Finally,  I was able to watch this great movie yesterday with my brother, Karl.   Honestly, even if a lot of people gave spoilers and I already knew the ending, I was still surprised with a lot of scenes.   The dialogues were well thought of and flashbacks weren't confusing. The whole ensemble's perfect .  Even if I couldn't imagine how Lito Pimentel and Yayo Aguila could conjure  Toni, it didn't matter. They were all great in playing their roles.  I don't think anyone else was thinking about that anyways.   Who did I relate with? Patty or Ginny? A part of me is Patty and a part of me is Ginny.   I a

Matchstick Men (2003)

Image
Matchstick Men   (Link added Feb 2014) Written in the latter part of 2013 : Nicolas Cage is one of my favorite actors, but I was not able to watch this film on the big screen.  There were only a few movies that I was able to watch because of the many transitions that happened to me that year(2003) and my brother, PG, also died then and I also thought  that I had someone I could love for the rest of my life. After more than ten years, I was able to watch this on the idiot box.  Why did I miss reading such a wonderful book (Eric Garcia) and why did I fail to watch this awesome movie?  It's better late than never, right? Sam Rockwell as Frank Mercer and Nicolas Cage as Roy Waller As I was channel surfing I chanced upon Matchstick Men .  I had no idea why it was called such, but I saw Nicolas Cage's name and vaguely remembered some scenes from its trailer.  "Oh, there's a young girl in the trailer..." Later on, I felt so stupid

Endless Love 2014

Image
From Google Images Scott Spencer, the original author of Endless Love, is very disappointed with both movie adaptations of 1981 and 2014. I've seen both movies.  The first one depressed me, but the second one made me feel lighter inside. I understand Scott Spencer. It's not the same thing, but I remember researching for a group of people before and most, if not all, the ideas presented were mine, but I was just credited as the TYPIST.   My goodness.  Researching and typing are two different things so I was really very, very disappointed.  The leader misquoted me several times, and I felt really, really bad. Scott Spencer felt he was misquoted in both films, and this Valentine 2014 full film feature presentation was mangled beyond recognition.  Anyways, if you care for the author, download the  ebook or buy the paperback version in bookstores(not in book sales because it won't help him) or online . I thought the only person alive that doesn't care how much

Winter's Tale

Image
“He moved like a dancer, which is not surprising; a horse is a beautiful animal, but it is perhaps most remarkable because it moves as if it always hears music.” ―  Mark Helprin ,  Winter's Tale To those who have read the book:   Characters not appearing in the film include Jackson Mead, Virginia's son Mark, and both Vittorio and Hardesty Marratta. Here's my take on the movie: I'm not really a movie critic and if I have nothing good  to say, then I would not write anything about it.  Even if I don't like the message of the movie, like let's say, THE COUNSELOR , I would not write about it if I didn't see a single iota of brilliance. A few minutes into the film I was seeing signs of Scientology, New Age, et cetera .  Anyways, don't worry, I would not dwell into that.   Religious beliefs aside, this is a good movie, with some goofs(like the 1915 missing person poster, when it should have been 1916) and how could "Little Willa" sti
