REKORDER: a "thinkers' movie"

Image
Ronnie Quizon is an underrated actor who is more than just his father's son and that's the very reason why I fully support this film. Without expecting to like it, my best friend, Eise, accompanied me to watch it at the Alabang Town Center Cinema 4.  When I bought the tickets, a total of three people purchased the tickets. Tsk, tsk.   Unlike in Greenbelt where people were aware of the film fest, people from Alabang seemed oblivious to the fact.  I usually post things after the fact, but   I felt that I just had to do something and hopefully, someone would notice.    I don't even check-in because of security reasons(talo pa artista at politico, LOL), but I was compelled to post my ticket purchase(s).    I don't know if it helped or not, but  it does not matter.  Even if the place wasn't jam-packed or anything, there were more people who experienced  the movie with us. Tuhog, a movie college students and adults must see (2013)

TUHOG main cast:  Jake Cuenca, Enchong Dee, Eugene Domingo and Leo Martinez TUHOG theme song Tuhog is a very unconventional film noir that pulls the heartstrings and opens the mind.   The ending for me and my mom was quite unexpected, so I won't talk about it here...and for those who are wondering, NO, this is NOT a remake of a Klaudia Koronel film(aka Larger than Life). I got interested in this movie the moment the trailer was shown. The number one reason was because of Eugene Domingo as FIESTA . She for me is one of the best actors/performers/comediennes in the world.  She is also very, very intelligent and witty.  Being all that, one would think it would get into her head, but she is one of the humblest beings in the entire universe. Perhaps, that's an exaggeration, but that's how I see her. Now, add the very dashing debonair Jake Cuenca, the ultra talented Leo Martinez and the  muy simpatico  Enchong Dee , then the sum is a MUST SEE film. The se

Pacific Rim(2013), a movie I never really expected to like

Image
Being the only girl in the family, although I had lots and lots of dolls and other feminine playthings, I was exposed to Lego sets, match boxes, toy guns, Justice League (DC) and Marvel comics, and robots.  I was addicted to watching Voltes V , Mazinger Z , Daimos etc. while collecting their action figures/robots. All of them were donated to less fortunate children and though I gave them away wholeheartedly, sometimes I wonder how it would feel like if I still have them. When the trailers of PACIFIC RIM were shown, you would think I would jump for joy, but I did not.  In my mind this was only going to be a TRANSFORMERS or KING KONG versus GODZILLA wannabe. Boy, was I wrong! (more below) Written(along with the author, TRAVIS BEACHAM) and Directed by GUILLERMO DEL TORO Pacific Rim is a surprisingly endearing story, which is action packed, funny, with a little drama and a lot of sense.  True, the scenes were literally dark, but if it weren't, I guess, l

White House Down versus Olympus Has Fallen (not a review)

Instead of saying anything negative(because there are a lot), I will just mention the good points. OLYMPUS HAS FALLEN: 1. It has Gerard Butler as Mike Banning, the HERO. Gerard is one of my Hollywood crushes...sigh 2. Morgan Freeman, Aaron Eckhart, Dylan Mc Dermott, Angela Bassett and Finley Jacobsen were superb! 3. Nothing beats the " original " WHITE HOUSE DOWN: 1. The story is very believable and has integration.  The actors were ALL great. 2. I didn't "see that coming" 3. Channing Tatum is hot!  4. Joey King is a darling 5. James Woods, Maggie Gyllenhaal and Richard Jenkins are so convincing.  6. Jamie Foxx is very charming. 7. I like the fact that the President has more action scenes here Lesson: Never look down on flag twirlers ;-) Similarities: 1. Target: White House/President of the United States of America 2. Inside Job 3. Hierarchy :p 4. Codes 5. Nerds 6. Terrorists Differences: 1. Perpetrators and purpose/mission 2.
