INDAK(2019): Now this is a movie we should write about

Image
source Directed by Paul Alexei Basinillo Writing Credits (in alphabetical order) Paul Alexei Basinillo, and Juvy Galamiton  Kim Noromo ... (screenplay) Regene Estolatan, Paul Alexei Basinillo, and Rhadson Mendoza ... (story) There are very few local dance films that I still cherish until this very day: HATAW NA! (1995),  HOTSHOTS (1984), SWING IT...BABY(1978), BAYARANG PUSO(1996), 14 Going Steady(1984),  and maybe I could include CAMPUS BEAT(1984). There are many movies that are musicals that involve a lot of dancing, and one of them that is an all-time favourite of mine is ANG LARAWAN , and another is EMIR , which I think is one of the best ever produced. INDAK  is the latest addition to my very short list.  It's not perfect, but I like its style, approach, and treatment. I like how the actors acted, and I love how hard they prepared for this movie mentally, spiritually, physically, emotionally, et cetera. I guess m...

I Do bidoo bidoo: Heto nAPO sila (2012)

Image
I originally wrote this 30 August 2012, but I updated it on 14 June 2019.  I updated it more on 18 June 2019. From imdb Written and Directed by CHRIS MARTINEZ as inspired by the music of The APO Hiking Society This is the promotional poster for Unitel and Studio 5's I Do Bidoo Bidoo starring Sam Concepcion, Tippy Dos Santos, Eugene Domingo, Gary V., Ogie Alcasid, Zsa Zsa Padilla The first time I've seen this almost seven years ago I was deeply impressed because even if the movie is a musical comedy, the flow of the story was...is almost seamless.  The songs of course were very familiar, but I was careful not to sing in the theatre.  I am still traumatised (I should be over this, I know, but not until I find out if the aggrieved party has forgiven me) because I thought I wasn't too audible I sang with someone doing a solo number.  She felt more than slighted.  In Filipino I could say nabastos ko siya .  Google translates it to I made h...

Kimmy Dora ang Kiyemeng Prequel (2013)

Image
You've gotta love Dora's brown rice. When Kimmy Dora and the Temple of Kiyeme 's showing as full feature flick via the silver screen ended, I was trying to imagine what the sequel would be.  I thought  the twins would get married to their respective partners, then would have kids, so forth and so on. I guess that was too predictable so they chose to have a prequel instead. Others say the first was the best. What's my opinion? Yes, Kimmy Dora was definitely the best, but the other two were barrels of laughs too. It is seldom that comediennes of Eugene's caliber get noticed, so I'm very, very happy that people acknowledge her versatility.  She is a person with a good heart and even with all her fame and accolades, she still gets very, very nervous up to the opening day. ...and because of that very reason, I TRY to make it a point to watch every movie or TV show.  I want to watch one of her stage plays one day.  I hope it would reall...

Way Back Home 2011

Image
http://www.starcinema.com.ph/ Director :  Jerry Lopez Sineneng Running time :  120 minutes Screenplay :  Karen Ramos ,  Vanessa R. Valdez Story by :  Karen Ramos ,  Dang Bagas ,  Vanessa R. Valdez Before watching this movie I heard a lot people say that they couldn't imagine a person with Germanic features could be siblings with someone with Asian features.  Well, I have "news" for you. It's possible.  I know, because I belong to a family like that.  Maybe not my immediate family, but my mom's side of the family is like that. We have different features. Some look Spanish, some look like Germans, some look like Chinese and the list goes on.  Since the story was tailor-made for the new generation's Mara Clara teen stars, Kathryn Bernardo and Julia Montes, the casting director chose their parents to be Tonton Gutierrez and Agot Isidro.  Tonton could pass as Julia's dad and Agot could pass as ...
