Barcelona: A love untold (2016)

Four "Free" Tickets from E-Plus (in actuality, PhP3.00 each) Directed by: Olivia Lamasan W ritten by:Olivia Lamasan and Carmi Raymundo Thank goodness I finally was able to watch this film.  I did not expect much because thought it was just going to be "the same old story" or probably it was going to be too commercial, but after being so impressed with these two young actors in SHE'S DATING THE GANGSTER , CRAZY BEAUTIFUL YOU  and the update of PANGAKO SA 'YO, even if I am not a die hard fan, I told myself I have to watch this. I was intending to watch this with Joy, but I was still on the road around the time she said she was going to watch this, then we became so busy and when we had time to watch movies, dad wanted to prioritise his provincial hero, Hermano Puli and the update of The Magnificent Seven. The Pentatonix Concert's tickets were purchased much earlier(and I didn't even realise it was a Saturday) so watching this film ...

Ma' Rosa (R16)

Image
From imdb This is the movie that gave the first acting recognition at the Cannes Film Festival(a.k.a Festival de Cannes/The International Film Festival) to Ms. Jaclyn Jose, one of the best in our Local Film Industry. Of course, we wanted to see what made "them" recognize her. So this is my two cents worth:  Ms. Jose's famous underacting  is really laudable and it proves that she is really a multifaceted person.  Still, I must say that she has played many other roles of international caliber, meaning, even better than how she acted in Ma' Rosa. Ms. Jaclyn Jose and her co-stars are brilliant.  The story? It's the harsh reality happening in the poverty stricken society, but it could have been...I will let the " critics " do the talking .  I just have a few comments: *Non-commercial? I get that this is not the type of film people would make a box office success(no love teams or whatever else that would brand this as "commercial"), bu...

Just the 3 of Us (R-13) 2016

Image
note: I was able to watch great movies before this one, but for one reason or another I wasn't able to blog about them. Director: Cathy Garcia-Molina An unlikely love story between polar opposites Uno(JOHN LLOYD CRUZ) and CJ(JENNYLYN MERCADO), two strangers, and how one night changes their lives forever. Unforeseen circumstances collide and force Uno and CJ to live under the same roof as they both deal with their sense of responsibility and their yearning for security. Uno is motivated by his sense of family while CJ is governed by an unconditional love that should put her first above everything else. The unlikely thing that binds Uno and CJ together paves the way for them to find in each other the kind of love they never thought they needed. ( source ) Just the 3 of Us is a feel good romantic comedy.  Heartstrings were pulled towards the middle of the film, but it was balanced with lots of laughs, love of family, great friends, etc. The very cute neighbour, H...

Working Girls (Ishmael Bernal, 1984)- Viva Films

Image
From video48.blogspot.com Director:   Ishmael Bernal Writer:   Amado Lacuesta  (story) Produced by  Vic del Rosario Jr. ... executive producer Tony Gloria ... supervising producer William C. Leary ... associate producer  Ramon Salvador ... producer Music by  Willy Cruz The first time I've seen this film, I was a very, very impressionable high school student who rarely liked Filipino Films, except for the old ones in gray scale from LVN and Sampaguita Pictures.  I did watch contemporary/modern movies with my friends, family or with our nannies, but there were only a few that made a mark.   When I watched this movie, I was quite impressed with the script and the empowerment of women, but was quite disappointed that Maria Isabel Lopez's character named Rose was not able to rise from the ashes.  Tsk, tsk, tsk! She just had to have that one last job  before getting hitched.  Yes, reality bites, but I...
