Black Panther (2018)

Image
BLACK PANTHER What's so great about Panther is he's a superhero who, if you grab him and ask him if he's a superhero, he'll tell you, 'No.' He sees himself as a politician, as a leader in his country. It just so happens that the country is a warrior-based nation where the leaders have to be warriors, as well, so sometimes he has to go fight.  – Ryan Coogler , director of  Black Panther [Wikipedia] Alabang Town Center  Commercenter  BLACK PANTHER(film) 2018 After the death of his father, T'Challa returns home to the African nation of Wakanda to take his rightful place as king. When a powerful enemy suddenly reappears, T'Challa's mettle as king -- and as Black Panther -- gets tested when he's drawn into a conflict that puts the fate of Wakanda and the entire world at risk. Faced with treachery and danger, the young king must rally his allies and release the full power of Black Panther to defeat his foes and se...

Star Wars Episode 8: The Last Jedi (2017) Rated G (Not really a review)

( source ) ( source ) Rey develops her newly discovered abilities with the guidance of Luke Skywalker, who is unsettled by the strength of her powers. Meanwhile, the Resistance prepares to do battle with the First Order.-WWW Director: Rian Johnson Music composed by: John Williams Screenplay: Rian Johnson Whew.  Finally, I've seen episode 8.  My nephew wanted to watch it with us and we had to see it together for the first time, so we won't spoil anything for him.  We watched it on his birthday, which was yesterday...well, a few hours ago.   Is this really Rated G?  I'll still go with PG, but hey, the kids understood it and they enjoyed it.  We enjoyed this as well. There are a few people who were not contented of the outcome of this movie, but I know a lot of people who have seen this a gazillion times.  Of course, I am exaggerating.  My point is, they watched it more than once. There are many funny an...

STAR WARS EPISODE VII: The Force Awakens (2015)

THIS NOT REALLY A REVIEW: People were actually "amazed" that I have not seen this blockbuster hit before Christmas because they knew that I was waiting for this since it was announced. It just so happened that I was really very busy with a lot of things that I didn't have the luxury to watch it.  I had a chance once, but due to miscommunication, my companions thought I just wanted to sleep that they watched the movie without me.  What I said was, "If we are going to watch the movie, I'll follow...if not, I'll just sleep." I was willing to wait until the 8th of January, but thanks to Facebook, I learned that the SM Supermalls were showing it via their IMAX Theaters.    I had a great IMAX experience.  I was able to journey with Rey and Finn like they were my close friends.  It was also great to pretend that I was fighting with the resistance. I had cheap thrills seeing Han and Leia embrace. I fought my tears when someone died.  A lo...

12 Years a Slave(R-13) 2013

Image
12 YEARS A SLAVE deserves all the accolades and awards it received.  It opened my eyes to a lot of things.  Some of the things I knew about slavery and human trafficking have been sanitized.  Human trafficking is real and until now, there are people who are being taken out of their comfort zones being sold.  Some become prostitutes and some are forced into labor.  Like this movie, some even do both, even more. Solomon Northup was born free in New York City.  He was more than comfortable.  In fact, he was affluent.  He was also very smart and had a very loving family and when he was kidnapped by those demented beings who pretended to be his fans, the things he thought he did not have to experience crushed all his hopes and dreams. Chiwetel Ejiofor , for me, even if I have so much respect and admiration for Matthew McConaughey, IS the best actor among all contenders.   He made me see how people who were misquoting the Holy Bible, ...

Non-Stop (2014) R-13

When we entered the cinema after mom bought her dress for tonight's event(my dad's classmate's 80th birthday at the Marriott ), I had no idea what it was about.  As a person born with itchy feet (I love to travel) , if I had known that this was a movie about the prevention of hijacking or the like, I wouldn't have watched it.  I've seen enough flicks to traumatize me.  For one reason or another, I was not able to read any advertisement about this and I was not given the chance to see the trailer. Sigh.  Anyways, I just sat back, relaxed, and tried to enjoy the film. Anyways, if you have read my so-called reviews or non-reviews, you would know I would not be writing about this if I totally hated it.  Yes, even if I believe that Liam Neeson is sort typecast for this type of roles,  I did like this film and even enjoyed it.  Yes, you read it right.  I enjoyed it.  I liked little Becca( McColgan ) best.  I don't know how old she ...
