Facebook Rappler Review by Zig Marasigan The trailer above made me joyfully wait for this movie to be shown in the cinemas.  Yes, yes, there was a more important event coming and I haven't forgotten who the real reason for the season is, but it made me list this as the first movie to watch on Christmas Day. Let me tell you a secret .  I was only intending to watch four movies anyway and the other three are:  BONIFACIO, KUBOT and MY BIG BOSSING. This morning we were pretty excited to go to Alabang Town Center.  We were given movies passes yesterday and even if we knew that we weren't going to be able to use them(the expiration date was on the 31st and it was the #MMFF2014, so the odds were obviously against us), we were still psyched to see this film. After watching the movie I was able to read the wonderful review of Zig Marasigan .  Even if I don't entirely agree with what he has written, I agree with almost everything he said. He

Grace of Monaco (2014)

Image
Official Italian Poster Written for the screen by Arash Amel Prince Rainier III and Princess Grace of Monaco ( source ) MY OPINION :   Nicole Kidman is one of my favorite actors, but I  believe she was miscast as the very saint like Princess Grace of Monaco.  Her eyes are very fierce, even if she's very beautiful and elegant.  Tim Roth was likewise miscast because he lacked the appeal of Prince Rainier.  If I was not familiar with the great Grace Kelly and her prince charming, I guess I could say that they both acted well .  Unfortunately,  I was one of those fascinated with their life beyond the fairy tale.  I could not imagine that the person Nicole Kidman portrayed was "the" Grace Kelly and the person Tim Roth portrayed was Prince Rainier III himself.  Thankfully for both of them, although this is loosely based(which, in my opinion, is a very abused term for biopics) on true events, this is more fictional than real.   With the

Past Tense (2014)

( source ) Xian Lim, Kim Chiu, Ai Ai Delas Alas and Director Mae Cruz-Alviar ( source ) Typhoon QUEENIE hit Visayas and Mindanao really, really hard and because of this, some provinces were not able to watch this movie.  If one is fighting for dear life... When Boy Abunda talked to Kim Chiu about this, she just said, "Soft opening pa lang po..." Kim has been bashed for her winning BEST ACTRESS for her roles as Isabel, Jacq and Andrea in Ikaw Lamang ( 28th PMPC Star Awards for Television ). Even if all her contenders are great actors, I don't know why people have been bashing her.  She's a very versatile actor/actress and played her parts well.  I somehow felt her pain when she cried.  Thankfully, Xian Lim is very supportive and helps her to overcome all those obstacles with head held high. She also did well as the 2014 version of Rosabelle.  PAST TENSE is a  romantic comedy directed by Mae Cruz-Alviar  about two friends who have been the

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay(Part 1) Movie(2014)

Image
Directed by  Francis Lawrence Writing Credits   Peter Craig ... (screenplay) and Danny Strong ... (screenplay) Suzanne Collins ... (adaptation) Suzanne Collins ... (novel " Mockingjay ") My movie dates :-)   Book versus Movie THE HUNGER GAMES trilogy is dystopic as dystopic could be.  Almost every scene is heartbreaking.  It is very futuristic, but the whims of The Capitol is very, very barbaric.  Politics and showbiz are at their worst.  Graft and corruption is vehemently displayed.   Slaves  are mere toys for the powerful.  It's a if they were only born to entertain the upper crust of society.  It does not matter if they have to die in the end.  All the exciting scenes are reserved for part 2, but you won't be able to appreciate it that much if you won't watch the first part. They(the rebels and The Capitol), try to make everything exciting.   The Capitol is trying to dishearten everyone that is not one with them

WHAT TO EXPECT WHEN YOU'RE EXPECTING (2012)

Image
Inspired by the perennial New York Times bestseller of the same name, WHAT TO EXPECT WHEN YOU'RE EXPECTING is a hilarious and heartfelt big screen comedy about five couples whose intertwined lives are turned upside down by the challenges of impending parenthood. -World Wide Web I am a rainbow baby so I know "expecting" is a misnomer, but this is still a very beautiful movie about different kinds of mothers. 👪👫💑💏👥👄 Nothing is really by accident, except maybe for mishaps...well, I don't really know.  What I know is that I never intended to watch this film.  Well, I'm in my mid-forties, I'm single and I haven't given birth, and I probably never will, so I was sort of iffy when this movie was being promoted a couple of years back.  Besides, a lot of things happened that year of 2012 that...Let's not go there. How did I end up watching this film? One day I was feeling tired.  I felt too lazy to read or write or even play game

Interstellar (2014) PG

This is a movie that is worth every centavo(or penny, whatever the case may be).  True, it could have been shorter, but hey, if you're a Christopher Nolan fan like me(I have written about his past movies, but somehow, I was not able to save them when Multiply.com went pfft...I thought I did, but I'm sadly mistaken...now I'd rather stay in awe...I hope one day I could write about them), you wouldn't mind the length. You would sit back, relax, then would try to analyze the scenes, then sit back, relax, then try to analyze the scenes. ;-)  I love movies that make you think, but also gives you moments joy and satisfaction. For some weird reason, I was not able to see a trailer of this film until I already saw it.  At first I thought Mackenzie Foy was going to morph  into Anne Hathaway, but as it turns out, she grew up to be Jessica Chastain.  I was also surprised to see that this movie has a power house (Or may I say, stellar?) cast besides Anne Hathaway and Matt
