Star Trek Beyond (2016) PG

( source ) The Easter Eggs and References in Star Trek: Beyond  “Infinite Diversity in Infinite Combinations”, a Vulcan saying. This film is awesome.  I am not a certified Trekkie, but I have been watching the Star Trek series since I was little.  When Patrick Stewart "took over", I seldom watched it.  It wasn't because I did not like him, but I just didn't have time to watch his series all of the time. When Star Trek rebooted, I decided to watch it again.  I like the way it was retold, but of course, even with the close to lousy(but hi-tech during their time) special effects, nothing really beats the original. It's a good thing that the original members of the cast are still honored "here" and it's good to meet new members as well. A pleasant addition to the cast is Sofia Boutella, an Algerian dancer/actress/gymnast.  She has lots of fight scenes and her moves are graceful, but fierce. The best lines were uttered

Jason Bourne (2016) PG

Matt Damon and Alicia Vikander By  Source  ( WP:NFCC#4 ),  Fair use , https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?curid=39745425 The books by Robert Ludlum were the first books for adults that I read when I was a young girl. He was my dad's favorite author.  The first one I read was Bourne Ultimatum then the Matarese series.  I read The Bourne Identity as a teenager.  All his books are page turners. The man's a genius.  His legacy lives on!  imdb twitter By Source, Fair use, https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?curid=50834820 Perhaps critics won't agree with me, but I think Robert Ludlum would be proud of how his characters have evolved as envisioned by the film's director, Paul Greengrass and his co-writer, Christopher Rouse , who is also the film's editor. Maybe like the rest of the crowd, I was looking for something , but in the end(well, actually it's not "the end", but a cliffhanger), I was satisfied.  Al

Ghostbusters 2016 PG

Twitter Paranormal researcher Abby Yates (Melissa McCarthy) and physicist Erin Gilbert are trying to prove that ghosts exist in modern society. When strange apparitions appear in Manhattan, Gilbert and Yates turn to engineer Jillian Holtzmann for help. Also joining the team is Patty Tolan, a lifelong New Yorker who knows the city inside and out. Armed with proton packs and plenty of attitude, the four women prepare for an epic battle as more than 1,000 mischievous ghouls descend on Times Square. Initial release: July 14, 2016 (Brazil)- WWW Director: Paul Feig Executive producer: Dan Aykroyd Producers: Ivan Reitman, Amy Pascal If not for my skeptical friend, Kristen, who ended up loving this film, I wouldn't have watched this.  Some naysayers said "It ruined our childhood!"(I say they are exaggerating) and some other words that are not worthy publishing.  It's hard to please my friend, so when she wrote a review/reaction paper about this movie, it go

Curtains Up (2016) Starring MiG Ayesa and Tanya Manalang

( source ) Thunder and lightning could not stop my Bestie and me from watching this show.  My family already had plans of watching another concert at the Music Museum, to support one of the composers featured(Mr. Dodjie Simon), but I saw someone  post about this before I purchased the tickets.  Since we were really bent on supporting that other concert, the deal was to find someone who was willing to watch CURTAINS UP with me and that person should be someone the family trusted and would be willing to fetch and drive me there(if that person's car was not available, that person should be willing to drive our car).  If I find that one(1) person, then I could watch Curtains Up.   Thankfully, my ever-so-busy Best est Friend, Eise, who is also a music lover, among other things, like me, was willing to watch it with me.  She was on her way to Boracay, but she would be back a day and 1/2 before the concert. So I purchased the tickets for both concerts.  Three for my fam

Imagine You and Me (G) 2016

(source) Che bella! A certified blockbuster/box office hit It's true.  I am one of those who love the AlDub tandem, though I must say that I'm a late bloomer.  I didn't jump the bandwagon all at once.  It took time for me to appreciate these two young artists as a pair, but they "grew on me". Even if I love them, I was so out of the loop for the longest time that when one of my closest friends invited me and another of my closest friends to watch #IYAM, I never imagined I would like it so much...that WE would like is so much. The quality of the film is of International Caliber.  Only a portion of the film was shot in the Philippines, but even if almost the whole movie was set in Italy, the story captures the hearts of Global Filipinos anywhere in the world(yes, it seems redundant, but...). Judging from the posts of my other friends, every cinema was jam-packed.  It was not the case at the Director's Club Cinema 1, SM BF, so I hope thi
