PAUWI NA also known as PEDICAB (R-13) 2016

The Philippines answer to MODERN FAMILY :-p   One of my favourite scenes Bembol Roco(Mang Pepe), Cherry Pie Picache(Aling Remy), Meryll Soriano(Isabel), Jerald Napoles(JP) and Chai Fonacier(Pina) Dream Sequence The title is PAUWI NA(Going Home...On the Way Home...Homeward Bound) also known as PEDICAB(pedal pushed trike).  I read some international articles think that Pauwi Na's translation is Pedicab, though they get the story. The story, though sort of presented in a lighter manner, is very profound.  It's based on an article in the early 2000s when a family due to lack of funds wanted to go home to Leyte using just a pedicab. Of course, that's quite impossible because the bridge at the edge of southern luzon does not exist...yet. Having an irreverent sort of "Jesus Christ" is nothing new, but if you listen to his advices, towards the end, even if he did sort of judged all priests, you would like this Jesus played by JESS MENDOZA .  Thankfully...

A Work of a Real Genius: Bliss (R-18) 2017

Never in my wildest dreams did I "see this coming".  If it were up to me, I would've watched Sandara Park's ONE STEP  or Katie Holmes' TOUCHED WITH FIRE , but instead,  I found myself watching this previously X-Rated film called BLISS  with my parents at EVIA Lifestyle Mall's Vista Cinema DOLBY Atmos Theatre and I was very impressed.  The theme is disturbing indeed, but what made it lighter was the treatment and the close to seamless acting of Audie Gemora and Michael De Mesa.  I watched this film like I was watching a tennis match so the scenes did not confuse me.  Thankfully, I didn't make a mistake which scenes were real or just inside Jane's head. While we were watching we were reminded of  Gaslight ,  Misery (which was mentioned in the film) and Satoshi Kon's  Millennium Actress (I wrote about this before, but I couldn't find it) and  Perfect Blue . When I checked online, I learned that it was indeed patte...

Bambanti (2015) -Sinag Maynila

Bambanti means scarecrow in Ilocano Although very different, scenes of Victor Hugo's Les Miserables played in my mind while watching this film.  I couldn't help but feel miserable for the plight of the poor relatives being accused of stealing a watch, just because of their status in life.  Every scene was so vivid and very, very real. The town of Luna, Isabela...a place unfamiliar to me(I've been to Isabela, but not there), became very familiar, indeed.  I never knew of the Bambanti Festival and it was great to know that such a festival exists.  Who knows, I might go and experience the festival one day. Alessandra de Rossi , as Belyn, became the pilot of my journey to this quaint and mysterious town.  At least, that's what the movie conveyed to me.  The town was a bit mystical, but their problems were real as real could be. Ms. de Rossi is really a very beautiful and talented person.  The expressions of her eyes and her every movement b...
