FAMILY HISTORY (2019)

Image
( source ) Written and Directed by MICHAEL V When plans for the day did not come to fruition, dad, mom, and I decided to watch a movie instead.  We've seen most of the blockbusters, and the others were Horror Flicks(not really our cups of tea, with some exceptions, of course) so we were left with no choice  but to watch FAMILY HISTORY. Boy, were we surprised. The style and treatment were done before, but we were so impressed by the flow of the story, the acting, the injection of graphic arts, the cinematography, et cetera , most especially the direction.  The topics aren't new, and  they are all very relatable, but how the characters dealt with the different situations proves that the writer/director/producer/composer, MICHAEL V, is a genius. DAWN ZULUETA, KAKAI BAUTISTA, MIGUEL TAN FELIX, BIANCA UMALI, PAOLO CONTIS, JOHN ESTRADA, EUGENE DOMINGO, DINGDONG DANTES, MIKOY MORALES, NIKKI CO, JEMWELL VENTINILLA, VINCE GAMAD, and NONIE BUENCAMINO, pl...

I Do bidoo bidoo: Heto nAPO sila (2012)

Image
I originally wrote this 30 August 2012, but I updated it on 14 June 2019.  I updated it more on 18 June 2019. From imdb Written and Directed by CHRIS MARTINEZ as inspired by the music of The APO Hiking Society This is the promotional poster for Unitel and Studio 5's I Do Bidoo Bidoo starring Sam Concepcion, Tippy Dos Santos, Eugene Domingo, Gary V., Ogie Alcasid, Zsa Zsa Padilla The first time I've seen this almost seven years ago I was deeply impressed because even if the movie is a musical comedy, the flow of the story was...is almost seamless.  The songs of course were very familiar, but I was careful not to sing in the theatre.  I am still traumatised (I should be over this, I know, but not until I find out if the aggrieved party has forgiven me) because I thought I wasn't too audible I sang with someone doing a solo number.  She felt more than slighted.  In Filipino I could say nabastos ko siya .  Google translates it to I made h...

Of course, because of modern technology, one is tempted to check the answer before it is revea...

Kimmy Dora ang Kiyemeng Prequel (2013)

Image
You've gotta love Dora's brown rice. When Kimmy Dora and the Temple of Kiyeme 's showing as full feature flick via the silver screen ended, I was trying to imagine what the sequel would be.  I thought  the twins would get married to their respective partners, then would have kids, so forth and so on. I guess that was too predictable so they chose to have a prequel instead. Others say the first was the best. What's my opinion? Yes, Kimmy Dora was definitely the best, but the other two were barrels of laughs too. It is seldom that comediennes of Eugene's caliber get noticed, so I'm very, very happy that people acknowledge her versatility.  She is a person with a good heart and even with all her fame and accolades, she still gets very, very nervous up to the opening day. ...and because of that very reason, I TRY to make it a point to watch every movie or TV show.  I want to watch one of her stage plays one day.  I hope it would reall...

Status: It's Complicated (2013)

Image
This movie is a remake based on the 1979 comedy directed by THE Ishmael Bernal called SALAWAHAN , with a different attack.   I was able to watch Salawahan  more than three decades ago(I forgot if I watched this with my friends at BF Homes(my friend's dad was from MTRCB or its equivalent)...yes, there was a theater there with a bowling alley...so I was better a bowler when I was younger, now...hey, that's not the topic) and a few years back on TV. When I was a little girl, I had this humongous crush on Mat Ranillo III so I guess I watched any movie with him in it that was appropriate for my age.  I don't think this was a proper movie for someone my age that time, but somehow they let me in.  Either I looked older than my age or they were just not that strict there. Watching Salawahan  again a few years back, I wondered why I was laughing my heart out when I watched it the first time.  Maybe I was more conservative when I watc...

MomZillas (not a review) 2013

Image
Some tips before watching the movie(or before playing the LEGAL DVD in the future): Remember, this is a Comedy Full Length Film Feature.  While watching, please don't over analyze any situation. Sit back, relax, enjoy the movie, have a barrel of laughter(most of the time).  MomZillas is a very enjoyable movie.  The wit and humor of two award winning versatile actors along with the rest who supported them was definitely worth watching. Eugene Domingo is one of my favorites(she's so versatile, intelligent and wise) and I practically "grew up" with the Diamond Star(I've been watching her since she was six...well, I watched reruns cause although I was already alive when she was six, I don't think I would've appreciated her acting because everything would be a blur and so I guess it's safe to say that I've been following her career since she was ten) so I happily awaited for this film to be shown in the cinemas.  I must say, it was w...

Tuhog, a movie college students and adults must see (2013)

Image
TUHOG main cast:  Jake Cuenca, Enchong Dee, Eugene Domingo and Leo Martinez TUHOG theme song Tuhog is a very unconventional film noir that pulls the heartstrings and opens the mind.   The ending for me and my mom was quite unexpected, so I won't talk about it here...and for those who are wondering, NO, this is NOT a remake of a Klaudia Koronel film(aka Larger than Life). I got interested in this movie the moment the trailer was shown. The number one reason was because of Eugene Domingo as FIESTA . She for me is one of the best actors/performers/comediennes in the world.  She is also very, very intelligent and witty.  Being all that, one would think it would get into her head, but she is one of the humblest beings in the entire universe. Perhaps, that's an exaggeration, but that's how I see her. Now, add the very dashing debonair Jake Cuenca, the ultra talented Leo Martinez and the  muy simpatico  Enchong Dee , then the sum is a MUST SEE...

YOU ARE THE ONE (song lyrics and video at the bottom) 2006

Image
What made me watch this film?  The trailer! It was beautifully made...It tickled my fancy...Sheesh. I was waiting for this movie to show a month ago and finally, we were able to watch it! We nearly lost RJ several times already and every moment spent with him is cherished. I know people might not understand how much I love my brother, but that's just it...I do! One week before watching the movie, we prepped him not to walk out. He walked out on HITCH (mom and I had to talk had ourselved stamped, brought him home then watched the movie again---we love it),  MADAGASCAR (I still don't get why he didn't like this film), DON'T GIVE UP ON US (Judy Ann Santos and Piolo Pascual---mom joined him and I had to finish the movie alone) and I WILL ALWAYS LOVE YOU when Cecille, Angel Locsin's role, Cecille, ran away from Andrew, her groom played by James Blanco to be with Justin(Richard Gutierrez). We prayed hard that he would finish this film like he did ...
