A Family Thanksgiving (2010)

Image
A wealthy, successful corporate lawyer ( Daphne Zuniga , “One Tree Hill”) is living the high life in New York City with little time for anything except her lavish lifestyle until a close encounter with a bizarre mystic (Academy Award® Winner Faye Dunaway , “Network”) drops her into an alternative reality to see what her life might have been like had she made different choices.- The Hallmark Channel Director: Neill Fearnley Writer: Emily Baer They are not hiding it.  This movie could have been given the title, "FAMILY WOMAN".  It's almost exactly the same, less the big screen/cinematic elements the Nicolas Cage starrer that awed the viewers, prompting them to talk about "them" over coffee, dinner or what have you.   Still, this one warms the heart.  True, not everyone needs a person of the opposite gender or another person of the same gender to be complete, but sometimes we overlook people who notice us, but just don't know how to approach us or tell...

Nora Roberts' MIDNIGHT BAYOU (Romantic Suspense/Paranormal) 2009

Image
( source ) Evocative supernatural drama about a successful attorney who decides to relocate to a lavish New Orleans mansion to which he feels inexplicably drawn. Settling in, he soon begins to experience ghostly goings-on, and, with the help of an attractive young woman and her grandmother, sets about unravelling the plantation's history to discover the truth about his visions.--WWW Initial release: 28 March 2009 Director: Ralph Hemecker Theme music composer: Chris P. Bacon; Stuart Michael Thomas Story by: Nora Roberts Adapted from: Midnight Bayou If there's one author that I have lots of Blu-Ray/DVDs of, it's Nora Roberts.  Most of the things I have written about those movies were blogged on Friendster and Multiply.  They are now lost in cyberspace because I wasn't able salvage the pieces I wrote about them.  No use crying over them so I'll just try to write about them one of these days. MIDNIGHT BAYOU is not one of those I've viewed befo...

The CASE for CHRIST (PG) 2017

Image
THE CASE FOR CHRIST :   BASED ON THE TRUE STORY OF AN AWARD-WINNING JOURNALIST WHO,  WORKING TO DISPROVE THE NEWFOUND CHRISTIAN FAITH OF HIS WIFE, BEGINS CHASING DOWN THE BIGGEST STORY OF ALL TIME WITH UNEXPECTED, LIFE-ALTERING RESULTS. (FROM THE OFFICIAL WEBSITE) Lee Strobel is a person I have admired since I was very young. Lee Patrick Strobel is one of the best investigative journalists of all time. He is a loving husband and father because he promised he would love his family no matter what, unlike his very "neglectful" father. 1980 Lee Strobel only believes the "facts" and he does not believe in a higher power.  He, "in fact", is an atheist.  When his wife "changed" and started believing in God, the great researcher with a great mind, as challenged by a colleague, thought it best to disprove the Almighty's existence. The movie based on his life is well written, well acted and well directed.  It is not only a conversion s...

The Champ (1931) and The Champ (1979)

Image
When I watched THE CHAMP(1979) several times in the 1980s, I did not know it was a remake.  Jon Voight, Faye Dunaway and Ricky Schroeder acted  as if the roles were tailor made for them.  In a way, the roles were indeed tailor made for them.  Billy (Jon Voight) used to be a great boxer, but he's settled into a hardscrabble life that revolves around drinking, training horses, and the one bright spot in his existence -- his young son, T.J. (Ricky Schroder). Although Billy has had custody of T.J. since his wife, Annie (Faye Dunaway), left the family years ago, her return prompts a new struggle for the former fighter. Determined to hold on to T.J., Billy gets back into the ring to try and recapture his past success.-WWW Director:   Franco Zeffirelli Writers:   Frances Marion  (story),  Walter Newman Stars:   Jon Voight ,  Faye Dunaway ,  Ricky Schroder Last night, when we got tired of a certain show, mom said, "Let's...

Chinatown (1974)

Image
Chinatown was the first movie that exposed me to incest(Oh my, did I spoil it for you?  There's more to it than that , believe you me!).  I watched this in the Betamax format when I was about ten years old and  I just couldn't fathom that because I am blessed to have a father who protects.  The ending gave me the chills and I could not stop crying.  I was morose. Robert Towne , the screenwriter, earned a lot of accolades because of this movie.  He is doubly blessed because when he wrote the script, he had Jack Nicholson  in mind and his wish came true.   I thought I was not going to watch this again, but my folks were watching this the whole time I was multitasking.  Oh shucks. Every scene was quite interesting.  I just don't get Jake Gittes' pose exposing his armpit after making love with Evelyn .  Was there a message that the director, Roman Polanski , was trying to convey? If so, I am clueless. John Huston ...
