Ruel S. Bayani's KASAL (2018)

My mouth is agape. What a great story! The actors were carefully chosen! Wow! Great twist and ending! Great direction! 😊 (Please pardon the exclamation points.)

Basing on the trailer I already guessed what the "truth" is, but I wasn't able to guess certain scenes, plus I love the ending.

I loved how the actors were all immersed into their roles.  Everyone's role, whether big or small is important.

I also loved that they showcased how beautiful Cebu is.  The LED flowers in Day-as, Cordova (10,000 Roses Cafe & More), the Adarna's Temple of Leah,

among other picturesque places and modern infrastructure.

THE ACTING:

We love Ms. Celeste Legaspi, but we loved her more because she took advantage of her beautiful platinum hair and allowed herself to look older(she looks so young in person) to be Lia's grandma.  She also acted so well.

Cris Villonco did a great job as the Campaign Manager/Spin Doctor, Michelle.  She can really play any role and be that person she's playing for the duration of the musical, play, movie, TV series or what have you.

Cherie Gil, the original Lavinia, was still as glamorous as ever.  She's so much at home in Cebu(she and her family plus other great actors had a TV series called CEBU in the 1990s where each actor was natural and displayed sartorial elegance) and her role suited her to a T.

Bea Alonzo is getting better and better.  For some reason we saw her as a fairer skinned Lorna Tolentino without a mole then suddenly remembered that she played her daughter in Sa 'Yo Lamang where she also played Coco Martin's elder sister, even if in real life Coco is older.  Here, she became Lia, a very wounded daughter of Paul,  and ex-girlfriend  of Wado.

Christopher De Leon is on a roll.  He could play a super nice person, someone conflicted, an ordinary Joe or someone so evil to the core like someone snapped his finger or waved his magic wand to transform him or something.  He still has it.

Derek Ramsay, according to my parents, is a very nice person, but here I wanted to kick his butt because he was such an asshole. His role, Wado, played dirty because of his twisted view of love.

Kylie Verzosa, Miss International 2016, is more than gorgeous.  She also acts so naturally.  She played Eunice like she was acting before she was even born.

Ricky Davao was so beautiful here.  Acting wise, on any medium, he never disappoints and it was proven here.

Divine's role was short, but she delivered.

Ces Quesada's role was also short, but there's no small role for her.

R.K. Bagatsing was dashingly handsome here and his voice was so melodic(no, he didn't speak in a singsong manner).

Vin Abrenica did his job well.

Bit players(at least in this movie) like Menggie Cobarrubias, Victor Silayan, John Lapus and many others, did not disappoint.

Paulo Avelino here proves that he is a chameleon.  Here he plays someone who is sure that he is in love with Lia right from the start, but when they parted, there were lots of things that happened to him, especially in the Big Apple.  Watching him be...I mean, as Philip, I can't help wishing that his role in #Asintado, Gael Ojeda, would end up with Juliana Ramirez/Ana Dimasalang, and handsome and physically fit Aljur Abrenica's role, Xander, would end up with Yvonne(Louise Delos Reyes) because it's only fair. Well, that's just me.  I will respect what the writers and directors think.  If they think Ana should end up with Xander, then so be it.  Sigh.  Back to Paulo/Philip, as the movie was ending, I told my folks, "I can't wait for GOYO: Ang Batang Heneral.  I'm sure it's going to be a big hit. "  They agreed with me.

To the writers Kriz G. Gazmen and Patrick John Valencia, congratulations.  You're both so talented.

Direk Ruel S. Bayani, what can I say?  You did it again.  Keep up the great work!

To the rest of the team, kudos to one and all.  If that's redundant, that only means I am emphasising it.  You all did great.

May you all have more projects to come!

note: Please forgive the interchanging of tenses and other matters.  :-)
