The One I Wrote For You (2014)
The One I Wrote For You is an inspirational, family-oriented feature film set to release in 2014. The movie tells the heartwarming story of Ben Cantor, a talented, 30-something songwriter and musician who gets a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to finally hit it big when his precocious ten-year old daughter secretly enters him into a Reality TV show songwriting contest. Though burned by a record deal years ago, past his "prime" to make it as a pop star and concerned they'll change who he is, Cantor enters the contest after being encouraged by his wife, Alicia, and former manager, Mickey. As he struggles through his doubts and overcomes formidable opponents in the competition, Ben's journey captures the hearts of millions of viewers - including his own daughter and wife - touching all those who follow his rise to stardom, fall from grace, and eventual return to what matters most: his family. Many of us have hopes
and dreams to make it
big one day. Some of
us achieve those dreams,
but remain grounded.
Unfortunately, some lose
their identities. When
they look in the mirror
they hardly even recognise
themselves. Deep inside,
they couldn't handle fame
and fortune.
The main character of this story is the first one. He was composing music even before he went to grammar school, and he could play several musical instruments. When he almost had it all, he gave everything up, but since there was a breach of contract, he also lost everything. Just listen to what Mickey(KEVIN POLLACK) would say somewhere in the movie.
Now, ten years later, his daughter accidentally discovers his music, and when she learned about THE SONG, a reality based contest, she submitted an entry on behalf of her father.
Ben(CHEYENNE JACKSON) was apprehensive at first, but his family along with his former manager, convinced him.
The long and short of it he discovers or rediscovers the bad side of showbiz...the politics...the manipulation...the, pardon the term, "monkey makers"(sorry monkeys)...the puppeteers...he loses himself again and becomes full of angst.
Anyways, it's a good movie, and it's fair too.
I think making Rafael(RAFAEL DE LA FUENTE)'s song sound a little like Blue Suede Shoes(or was it another old time hit?) was done on purpose.
DAVID KAUFFMAN's daughter, CAMERON, plays Angel, one of the contenders.
THE SOUNDTRACK
Big stars like CHRISTOPHER LLOYD(Ben's dad/pop) and Kevin Pollack take a back seat here so that the aforementioned, plus CHRISTINE WOODS (Ben's wife, Alicia) and AVI LAKE(Ben's daughter, Gracie) could shine. Still, they gave it their all.
Also in this movie, among others, are:
ENID GRAHAM as Jan Fender, Angel's nagging mother
DOUGLAS CABALLERO as Trip Richards
ANDREW SENSENIG as Wes Colborne
BRAD LELAND as Mr. Harrison, Ben's boss
RIFF HUTTON as Larry Fraser
ERINROSE WIDNER as Penny (I think she's the floor director or something)
MARIANA ALVAREZ as Carmela, Rafael's mother
and RUSHI KOTA as Joe Barry, Ben's coworker and friend
Kudos to everyone involved in this film.
