A Summer To Remember (2018)/Very, Very Valentine(2018)/A Christmas to Remember(2016)

This blog entry is about some of Cameron Mathison's made for TV movies I've seen sometime ago
Jessica Tucker, a widow and doctor, is trying to juggle work and family. She takes a vacation to bond with her daughter, Jessica books a stay at a resort in Fiji and strikes up a friendship with Will, the charming owner of the resort. As Jessica and Will spend more time together, she begins to relax and starts to wonder if this island paradise can give her the life - and love - she's always -hoped for.-imdb
A SUMMER TO REMEMBER
This is one of my favourites because of the cast, the horses, and the scenery.  Yes, it's formulaic and ever predictable, but it made me virtually travel to the gloriously beautiful Fiji.

CATHERINE BELL who plays Jessica, and she has good chemistry with Mr. Mathison.

Need I say more?

Helen, a kind hearted and shy florist, meets the perfect man at a Valentine's Masquerade Ball. When she enlists the help of her best friend Henry to track him down, she finds that her perfect man may already be right in front of her. Director: Don McBrearty

Torpe(tor-peh).  There is no direct translation, but this is close enough:  (adj.) Being too shy to pursue amorous desires.

The description above best describes Mr. Mathison's role.

The reviewer Miss M read my mind:

I went into this movie not knowing much and expecting an overused plot. The movie, while mantaining its hallmark (pun intended) seemed somehow different.

Helen is a florist (Danica McKellar). Her best friend is Henry, who works at the botanical garden. (Cameron Mathison). While they are at a party Helen connects with this other guy and is determined to find out who he is the day after. She, of course, asks Henry to help her. Not aware he is in love with her (and viceversa).

Both Danica and Cameron deliver an acceptable performance. However, I gotta admit that Danica always shines on her own. Pretty good chemistry between the two of them. Another surprise for me.

At the beginning of the movie there is a mention of a contest and of course Helen has THE perfect flower to present. (I've seen this before with flowers, wine and even perfume) but I was pleasantly surprised when I didn't see the contest and not a good cause to save (wait for it).

My favorite aspect of the movie was the fact that the main characters are not strangers, exes, nor colleagues who are forced to work together. And is there a better trope than two best friends who love each other but are too stubborn to admit it? Only a few. Once again, to my surprise, the "mystery man" - aka boyfriend? - was not an absolute narcissist, focused only on himself, which was a nice change.

Can be talk about the fact that it was Damon Ruyan? Someone who already has movies as the main character?

Dislikes? Only a few: The classic "I wanted a fairy tale story" which is extremely overused and tiring. And while the ending was lovely, I believe it was too much of a leap? But y'all be the judge of that.

A CHRISTMAS TO REMEMBER
Written by Dorie Barton and Jay Lowi
Directed by David Weaver

I was so happy to learn that MIRA SORVINO was playing Mr. Mathison's love interest in this made for TV movie.  She is not only beautiful, she's also a very talented actor.  She even has acting awards to prove it.

Although she has been involved in a lot of controversies, she overcame them and proved to the world that she is a fighter...a survivor.

This Christmas TV movie is so endearing.  The plot/premise may be one of the oldest, but it still offered something new.

(the movie was LOOSELY based on this)

"I have learned a lot about how to pray and how to deal with my passions and my enemies...from Karon's novels."-Christianity Today

A story I can relate to in more ways than one, Jan Karon's novel, AT HOME IN MITFORD, is. (Yoda speaking j/k)

The book is more of a Father Tim story, with a little mystery on the side plus other characters in Father Tim's life that aren't in the movie.

Speaking of which, where in the movie is Miss Sadie?  Where is Hoppy Harper?  What about Emma?  Where is Puny?  Where is Miss Rose?  What about Uncle Billy?  A lot of people are just afterthoughts.  I know we can't put all the characters of the book in the movie, but I am wondering out loud how come many IMPORTANT characters were deleted in the teleplay to highlight Cynthia Coppersmith's story.

The movie concentrates on Cynthia, Father Tim, Dooley, Barnabas and Violet.   Yes,  Hal and Marge are in this movie too, but...

As Scott Spencer put it when Endless Love was remade, it was mangled beyond recognition.

Andie MacDowell is a good actress, but to be the central character instead of Father Tim, is so disappointing.  Both of the characters are very important, but...

Everyone in Mitford knows one another, so Cameron Mathison, though good to look at and could himself act a bit, is hard to imagine as being Father Tim, because he has to have a lot of history with the people of Mitford.

By the way, I noticed that during meals they don't even say grace. Hmm... maybe I dosed off a little and missed it.

Anyways, the film is not a total waste of time.  If you haven't read the book, then maybe you would just think Father Tim is this thirty to forty something priest and has a thing for a beautiful older woman, rather than those younger ones who seem to fancy him.

😸😸😸

Dooley is a adorable and he has good rapport with Barnabas the giant puppy.

😽😽😽

Violet the cat could act and the horses are plus factors too.

Other than that...

🎬
That's a wrap!

Thanks for your time.
