If the Shoe Fits (1990)
The movie (changed the original link in 2018)
Directed by Tom Clegg
Written by Timothy Prager and Madeline Di Maggio & Pamela Wallace(a.k.a. Dianne King, Pamela Simpson)
This is about a woman, her dream job, her snobbish prince charming, a modern-day fairy godmother, and a magical pair of shoes. It is, as the title implies, a modern day Cinderella Story, but there's more to it than that. It is also a "Super Woman" story. Kelly Carter wears glasses, but as Prudence... J/K
It's not the best story and there are far better updates and remakes of Cinderella, but this movie is close to my heart.
Who am I kidding? ROB LOWE's being in this movie is sufficient enough. ;-)
This movie was filmed after Dirty Dancing was shown, so I was hoping JENNIFER GREY's transformation would be breathtaking, but it wasn't. "They" weren't so fair to her(hair and makeup artists or anyone who was in charge of her transformation). The movie is set in France, one of the top cities in the world of fashion, but the costumes weren't as glamorous as they should've been, but Kelly's designs are wonderful(on paper). Well, I'm not a fashionista so I have no right to clobber them, but as one who admires people from ordinary to haute couture, I think I know what's beautiful to look at, and what's not.
One of its writers, PAMELA WALLACE, also one of the writers Witness starring Lukas Haas, Kelly McGillis, and Harrison Ford, among other things, including Straight From the Heart, so even with the very shabby production and old premise, it surely is worth watching once, twice or thrice.
The lesson is to be happy for who you really are so you would not have to pretend to be someone you are not for someone to really love you.
A modern Cinderella in Paris: While the plain Kelly Carter jobs as a gadrobiere(sic) for the famous fashion designer Francesco, she dreams of designing shoes for him. However she can't win his attention... until she meets a good fairy on the street, who enchants a pair of Kelly's shoes, so that she turns into supermodel Prudence whenever she wears them. She attends one of Francesco's balls and immediately wins his heart. Now, how can she make him love her real self?
