To post or not to post: Shazam! (2019) #Shazam2019

3 April 2019, 5PM, Philippine Standard Time:

From Google: We all have a superhero inside of us -- it just takes a bit of magic to bring it out. In 14-year-old Billy Batson's case, all he needs to do is shout out one word to transform into the adult superhero Shazam. Still a kid at heart, Shazam revels in the new version of himself by doing what any other teen would do -- have fun while testing out his newfound powers. But he'll need to master them quickly before the evil Dr. Thaddeus Sivana can get his hands on Shazam's magical abilities.

Directed by DAVID SANDBERG
Written for the screen by HENRY GAYDEN

Created by BILL PARKER and C.C. BECK

We watched this movie on opening day from start to finish, and I want to tell you now that we loved it, and we stayed until mid credits(an important one), and up to the after credits(a funny one).  Some probably read the second teaser was just for laughs, left after seeing the thing shown midway.

I was worried about the little kids present.  They were screaming.  The seven(7) deadly sins were super scary for them.  Thankfully, the idea of a kid in a big man's body making foolish/immature decisions, kind of balanced everything in the movie. The kids enjoyed it.  We enjoyed it.  I think they got the idea from a Tom Hanks movie called Big(there was a scene there that reminded me of the said movie), because when we were small, after SHAZAM! was shouted, if I remember it correctly, that is, the ideas were sensible.  He was Captain Marvel.  :-P  Now, he couldn't even use it.  LOL.  Oh, I don't think I even wrote about "her" and her cat, Goose, who is actually a Flerken.  It's not that I didn't like it, but...

Moving on...

The 1970s Shazam even had a mentor played by LES TREMAYNE.  The immortals were animated/cartoonish.

So I guess I like this MODERN Shazam! better.

I like the entire story.

Yes, he was doing foolish decisions, but it was kind of realistic.  A kid's brain and heart were locked inside the adult we see.  He did not even have a guide. No mentor, except for his "brother", who was almost the same age, if not the same. Thankfully, he was more sensible than Billy.
Let me take that back.  He did have a mentor. That guy who transferred his powers, but he did not have time to mentor him.
The Acronyms
First
Solomon, Hercules, Atlas, Zeus, Achilles, Mercury (Captain Marvel's Elders)
Second
Selena, Hippolyta, Ariadne, Zephyrus, Aurora, and Minerva (Deities that supported Mary Marvel)

Third

Shu, Heru, Amon, Zehuti, Aton, Mehen (Captain Marvel Comics, deities that supported Black Adam)

Of course the first names are the ones that empower Billy Batson.  :-)

Well, I guess that's about it.

CAST FROM WIKIPEDIA:

  • Asher Angel and Zachary Levi as William "Billy" Batson / Shazam:  (Very good acting, Asher!)
A troubled orphan boy who is chosen as the "Champion of Eternity" and given powers by an ancient wizard, and transforms into an adult with superpowers when he speaks the sorcerer's name. Batson is chosen as the new Champion, eons after the Council of Eternity selected another hero, who eventually killed all of the Council except for Shazam. The powers given from the ancient wizard to Batson include gifts bestowed upon the sorcerer from various others. These powers include: the wisdom of Solomon, granting increased intellect; the superhuman strength of Hercules, the superhuman stamina of Atlas; powers from Zeus, including the ability to summon lightning; the increased courage of Achilles, as well as being nearly indestructible; and the superhuman speed of Mercury, which provides him with the means of flight. David Kohlsmith plays a four-year-old William "Billy" Batson. (David, you are a cutie, and a natural!)
  • Mark Strong as Dr. Thaddeus Sivana: (Mark, you are so versatile!)
A physicist who had grown up as an outcast in his wealthy family. Sivana had himself been summoned by the Wizard Shazam as a child, but was not chosen as his champion, leading Sivana to spend his life trying to unlock the secret to return to the Rock of Eternity. Ethan Pugiotto portrays a young Sivana. (All the best to you, young man!)
  • Jack Dylan Grazer(I'm gonna follow your career.  You're mighty talented) and Adam Brody (You are more than Mr. Leighton Meester---You are also very versatile) as Frederick "Freddy" Freeman: Billy's foster brother and best friend, a disabled, nerdy superhero enthusiast who is the only person that knows that he is Shazam.
  • Djimon Hounsou as Shazam: (What can I say, even if your face was barely seen, you did a good job!)
An ancient wizard seeking a successor, who bestows his powers on Billy Batson so that he can magically transform into an adult superhero. Hounsou previously portrayed Ricou, the King of the Fishermen, in Aquaman.
  • Grace Fulton and Michelle Borth as Mary Bromfield: Billy's foster sister at his new home, the "den mother" who helps take care of the other kids and is debating attending college in California.
  • Ian Chen and Ross Butler as Eugene Choi: Billy's foster brother at his new home, a obsessive gaming enthusiast and budding techie. (Two Awesome!)
  • Jovan Armand (maybe you'll have more exposure next time, but you did good) and D. J. Cotrona (all the best!) as Pedro Peña: Billy's foster brother at his new home, a shy, sensitive kid who has trouble opening up.[26][18][28]
  • Faithe Herman(such a natural) and Meagan Good (you're funny) as Darla Dudley: Billy's youngest foster sibling at his new home, an energetic and effusive little girl.
  • Cooper Andrews as Victor Vasquez: The foster father of the group home where Billy and his friends live
  • Marta Milans as Rosa Vasquez: The foster mother of the group home where Billy and his friends live.
Victor and Rosa, you rocked!  You are a couple of best foster parents ever.  (Marta and Cooper, I like you both!)
The film also features Andi Osho as social worker Mrs. Glover, and John Glover as the estranged father of Thaddeus, the head of Sivana Industries, while Natalia Safran was cast as Mrs. Sivana, Doctor Sivana's mother. Safran previously portrayed Rina, the Queen of the Fishermen Kingdom of Atlantis in Aquaman.  Additionally, Bill Dean voices a toy version of Batman, while Lotta Losten portrays Lynn Crosby, a doctor and researcher working with Sivana.
Additionally, the Seven Deadly Sins – a supernatural team of villains consisting of the demons Pride, Envy, Greed, Lust, Wrath, Gluttony, and Sloth – appear in the film. They are initially trapped in statues guarded by the wizard Shazam, but escape and align themselves with Sivana. The characters were portrayed by stunt doubles in motion capture suits on-set during filming and depicted as CGIcharacters.
