EVERYTHING YOU WANT: Of imaginary boyfriends and finding the love of your life (2005)

From imdb
The story starts with young Abby (RUBY CHASE O'NEILL) being sent to her Aunt Edna's house when her parents went from adventure to the next one to the next one, making Abby feel alone and unwanted.  When she didn't have friends, she turned to art, and when she was five(5), she met SY who became her Knight in Shining Armour when they were grownups.  Around that time she also met Jessica(as a grownup she is played by ALEXANDRA HOLDEN)

Fast forward to 2005(more or less)

Camera obscura:

Description

Camera obscura, also referred to as pinhole image, is the natural optical phenomenon that occurs when an image of a scene at the other side of a screen is projected through a small hole in that screen as a reversed and inverted image on a surface opposite to the opening. Wikipedia

The Camera Obscura plays a big role in this made for TV movie.

Quinn (NICK ZANO) talked about it with Abby (SHIRI APPLEBY) when he was starting to appreciate art.

The attraction between Quinn and Abby at first were manifested like obscure pinhole images.  They were classmates in Art Appreciation.  I just forgot what level.

Quinn was aspiring to be a Law Student, and he needed to pass that art subject for him to enter Law School, but he found the subject boring.

Anyway, without giving the WHOLE story away, it turns out Quinn is Jessica's cousin, and because of a certain event Quinn got invited to by Abby's parents(EDIE MCCLURG and SCOTT WILKINSON) while visiting his cousin, Quinn and Abby ended up having a deal by helping each other.

There are no small roles here and everyone is important, but I can't talk about them all.  I'll just talk about Jessica, Ryan(K.C. CLYDE), SY(ORLANDO SEALE), and Calvin(WILL FRIEDLE).

Jessica, the equally problematic best friend from childhood of Abby, is played by Alexandra Holden.  Even with problems of her own, including her work, when needed be, she becomes Abby's voice of reason.  Ms. Holden does a very convincing job.  She humours Abby about Sy once in a while, but she also splashes cold water on her face from time to time.
℘℘℘
Ryan is one of Jessica's exes, and her obnoxious boss.  He is kind of an asshole, but he has his moments.  K.C. Clyde disappeared.  It was always Ryan that we saw.  Slow clap for Ryan(start of the movie), but I think dear Mr. Clyde deserves some accolades.  :-)

Whew.  Am I so bad in wishing that they could've gotten another actor to play Sy?  Orlando Seale is good.  He is not bad to look at, but my gees.  If I were Abby, and a guy who looks like Nick Zano enters my life, and that same guy is falling in love with me, then it would easy for me to get rid of Sy.  OK, the Sy in the paintings with Mr. Seale as a model are hot, hot, hot...so I will reiterate, Mr. Seale is not bad looking.  It's just that whenever he and Ms. Appleby has a scene, he looks dorky.

Well, OK.  The story is deeper than that.  Sy was Abby's anchor...Better yet, he was her north star.  When Quinn came along, he should've faded, but Abby was still dealing with her relationship with her parents.
℘℘℘
Last, but not the least, I would like to talk about Calvin.  Calvin is the spaced out roomie of Quinn.  He hears ten voices in his head.  Sometimes he does silly things because nine of those voices are dunces.  The last voice is the sensible one, and when he's channeling that voice in his head, he becomes Quinn's voice of reason.  I don't know how this is different from D.I.D. or a Multiple Personality Disorder, so I won't go there.  What I know is that Mr. Friedle played him very, very well.

The story is actually very beautiful.  It's not a Pollyanna type of story, and there are no perfect characters.  Each character is broken, but each character is important.

All of us have our quirks, so we are not supposed to be quick to judge people.

This movie is some sort of a reminder that there's no such thing as a perfect person.  That person does not exist.  We are flawed in one way or another.

The imdb reviewers liked this movie, and they were actually wondering why this wasn't shown on the big screen.  I am wondering about that too.

Well, I guess that's about everything I wanted to say.

Thanks for your time.
