Kita Kita (2017) PG (a.k.a. I SEE YOU)

I couldn't help it.  We couldn't help it.  We clapped as loud as we could when the movie ended. As the trailer suggested, the ending was bittersweet, but there's more to it than meets the eye.

In Japan, kita means North and for them, North is Hokkaido. Sigrid Bernardo, the director of the movie, said she never thought about it.  It's just a coincidence.  What a happy coincidence.  What a pleasant surprise.  Serendipity!

Sapporo, capital of the mountainous northern Japanese island of Hokkaido, is famous for its beer, skiing and annual Sapporo Snow Festival featuring enormous ice sculptures. The Sapporo Beer Museum traces the city’s brewing history and has tastings and a beer garden. Ski hills and jumps from the 1972 Winter Olympics are scattered within the city limits, and Niseko, a renowned ski resort, is nearby.

The Filipino Language has more than one meaning for the word kita and here are three different meanings for it.

Kita=to see
Kita=you (connecting to someone else...sorta kinda, You and I combined, but not)
Kita=earning (sort of pronounced like to see, but a tad different...to see is a bit faster)

I already knew the ending just basing 

on the trailer, so I thought.  Somehow I guessed some of the scenes

and situations, but nothing prepared me for the REAL ending.

All I can say is that the scenes that happened after what I thought 

was the ending were beautiful.  

Tonyo(Empoy Marquez) really has a certain charm.  Tonyo's 

character's "being handsome" et cetera are his traits and his 

good nature.   He could have taken advantage of her in a super duper scary way, but he didn't. 

There's something endearing about Tonyo so who cares if he's short

and not what the world thinks is handsome.  Physical beauty is only 

skin deep anyway.  Besides, when he cleaned himself he wasn't so 

bad to look at.  Millions of Filipinos look that way and who are we 

to judge the out appearance of a creature of God?

Lea became temporarily blind due to stress(mag-ingat kayo---oo--

nakakabulag ang "stress") and because of her new neighbor's persistence,

her views in life changed and they became close.

Before she became blind she had a sunny disposition that got

lost, but thankfully, just in time, Tonyo lit up her dark world.

Both of actors of the central characters are natural.  They have great rapport. 

They have good chemistry.

I like the fact that there are only a few actors in this movie and it mostly

focused on the two of them, their story(stories) and the sceneries.
