After the Ball (2015)

From imdb

After the Ball, a retail fairy tale set in the world of fashion. Kate's dream is to design for couturier houses. Although she is a bright new talent, Kate can't get a job. No one trusts the daughter of Lee Kassell, a retail guru who markets clothes "inspired" by the very designers Kate wants to work for. Who wants a spy among the sequins and stilettos? Reluctantly, Kate joins the family business where she must navigate around her duplicitous stepmother and two wicked stepsisters, but with help from a prince of a guy in the shoe department, a god-brotherly gay pal in the design office, her godmother's vintage clothes, and a shocking switch of identities, Kate exposes the evil trio, saves her father's company, and proves that everyone can wear a fabulous dress. This fairytale inspired Canadian Production is surprisingly endearing.  I thought it was just one of those modernised fairytales that you would know exactly what would happen next.

The predictability is inevitable because it is a combination of Shakespearean plays and a whole lot of things including Cinderella, but it still offered something not so predictable scenes, even if in fact you have already guessed "it" along the way.

I like the chemistry between MARC-ANDRÉ GRONDIN(Daniel) and PORTIA DOUBLEDAY(Kate).  To be honest, I didn't see it at first, but later on, I saw the spark between in, and whether it is real or not, it surely looked like it was.

I also like the "fairy" godmothers of Kate(Richard(CARLO ROTA) and Bella(MIMI KUZYK)).  They are such a good team.

LAUREN HOLLY(Elise), I guess, is being typecast as the character you would love to hate, but thankfully, she did not disappoint.

Another person who did not disappoint here is the thankfully alive dad played by CHRIS NOTH(Lee Kassell).

The stepsisters(NATALIE KRILL and ANNA HOPKINS) and the evil conniver(COLIN MOCHRIE) did OK, but I really love Maurice(DAVID MICHAEL).

It may not be the best story ever retold, but it is enjoyable nonetheless.
