The Purge(2013)

  1. In an America ravaged by crime and overcrowded prisons, the government sanctions an annual 12-hour period during which all criminal activity -- including murder -- is legal. James Sandin (Ethan Hawke) and his family face the ultimate test when an intruder drags the vicious outside world into their home. James, Mary (Lena Headey) and their two children struggle to survive the night while trying not to turn into monsters like the ones they are striving to avoid.-WWW

This movie was a box office hit, but I never heard of it.  Thank goodness that it is being shown at HBO Hits and recently, I was able to watch it with my dad.

Dad and I became curious because when we were channel surfing. this movie was about to start in a few seconds.

Story-wise, it lacks depth, but it is thrilling and interesting enough for one not to leave the theater, room or wherever else that person is watching this story.

The Purgers are futuristic Klu Klux Klan types.  Yeah.  That's it.  That's what I think.  Plus, it's also about envy, technology, mercy and compassion.

Critics didn't love this film, but obviously, because of the high box office earnings, a lot of people loved this film. The sequel, THE PURGE:ANARCHY earned even more.  I haven't seen that yet.  I am not sure if I will.   The plot seems more interesting than this one, so let's wait and see.
