Parents' Guide (It's a bit more sanitized here in RP)-MPAA rating: PG-13 (for intense sequences of sci-fi violence and action, and for some language)
Running time: 2:02
"After stealing a mysterious orb, American pilot/outlaw hero Peter Quill is hunted down and thrown into an inter-galactic prison. In order to secure his freedom, Quill reluctantly joins forces with alien bandits Drax, Gamora, Rocket and Groot to form an alliance of misfits known as the Guardians of the Galaxy, and with the all-powerful villain Ronan hunting the orb, the fate of the universe is in their hands."
Based on the trailer I thought this movie was a very shallow adaptation of Marvel's GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY. If my seven-year-old nephew was not so excited to see this, I would probably wait for this to be shown on TV or I would way for the Blu-Ray version or something, but he was ecstatic.
I was not even feeling well when we watched this. I've been under the weather for about three days now, but yesterday I was forced to watch this with my nephew and his nanny. Dad was able to see this film with my brother, Karl, so he and mom decided to watch the Hercules Movie.
When the movie started I was touched by the scene where the young Peter Quill, who was evidently loved by his family, could not hold his mother(Laura Haddock as Meredith Quill)'s hand not because he did not love his mother, but because he could not accept that she was going away. When she finally left, Peter could not handle this so he ran outside to express his grief. Aliens abducted him and he grew up without the proper guidance and became the legendary outlaw called STAR LORD(Chris Pratt).
Meet STAR LORD'S accidental FRIENDS:
GAMORA(Zoë Saldana)- Thanos' rebellious favorite adopted daughter who betrayed Ronan, The Accuser. She hates Thanos because he is evil and wants to atone for her past sins. Later, she becomes Star Lord's love interest.
ROCKET 89P13(Bradley Cooper)- If I didn't know Bradley Cooper gave life to this character, I wouldn't even think that the voice I could here out of the Raccoon's mouth was from him. He gave Rocket a voice uniquely his. Rocket is a genius, most especially in making weapons. He is also Groot's best friend, though he feels like he is his(Groot's) master.
GROOT(Vin Diesel)-For me, he is the most important character in this movie. He, a treelike humanoid, represents the defenders of ecology and ecology itself. Environmentalists would love this character. He only becomes violent when he needs to protect or defend someone or something. He also revives those who are seemingly dead, most especially if they still have missions in life. Vin Diesel's lines were practically the same(I am Groot!) throughout the whole movie, but the tones define the meaning. Only Rocket understood each meaning. It is when he says, "We are Groot!" that my heart skipped a beat.
DRAX the Destroyer(Dave "Batista" Bautista)- was not part of the original team, but because of his rage against Ronan, he joined the Guardians of the Galaxy
NOVA CORPS- The "Board of Directors" or "Board Members" or "Senators" or Highest officials of Xandar. Xandar's central government
NOVA PRIME Irani Rael(Glenn Close)-The "CEO" or the "Governor" or the "President"
CORPSMAN DEY(John C. Reilly)- "met" Star Lord "several times" in terrible situations, but eventually became his friend when his family was saved by him and the rest of the troop.
His ENEMIES:
RONAN, The Accuser(Lee Pace)- A very scary creature who wants to rule the universe. Drax vowed to kill this apathetic creature even if it causes his life. Was Lee Pace effective as Ronan? Yes.
NEBULA(Karen Gillan)- Nebula is the daughter that almost stayed by her father's side all throughout her life, but unfortunately, she never felt loved by him. Thanos openly declared that Gamora was his favorite daughter. Whether it was said out straight or sardonically did not matter for it already irked Nebula to the core. Karen Gillan played a very convincing Nebula.
THANOS(Josh Brolin)- I love his voice and the way he depicted Thanos. I can't wait for the sequel. Thanos is an enemy of THE AVENGERS and I wonder what the "plan" is.
KORATH(Djimon Hounsou)- It was hard to picture him as the enemy because of his demeanor, but he did alright.
His FRENEMIES:
THE RAVAGERS- Peter Quill's abductors who wanted to eat him the minute they took him out of Terra.
YONDU (Michael Rooker)- Star Lord's foster father who leads the horde of ravagers
TANELEER TIVAN, The Collector(Benicio del Toro)- same character from The Avengers Comic Book series and Thor The Dark World
