Tuhog, a movie college students and adults must see (2013)

TUHOG main cast:
Jake Cuenca, Enchong Dee, Eugene Domingo and Leo Martinez
TUHOG theme song
Tuhog is a very unconventional film noir that pulls the heartstrings and opens the mind.  The ending for me and my mom was quite unexpected, so I won't talk about it here...and for those who are wondering, NO, this is NOT a remake of a Klaudia Koronel film(aka Larger than Life).

I got interested in this movie the moment the trailer was shown. The number one reason was because of Eugene Domingo as FIESTA. She for me is one of the best actors/performers/comediennes in the world.  She is also very, very intelligent and witty.  Being all that, one would think it would get into her head, but she is one of the humblest beings in the entire universe. Perhaps, that's an exaggeration, but that's how I see her. Now, add the very dashing debonair Jake Cuenca, the ultra talented Leo Martinez and the muy simpatico Enchong Dee, then the sum is a MUST SEE film.

The second reason was because of the Theme Song: Scared to Death which is composed and written by Domingo Cubelo Rosco Jr. and interpreted by KZ Tandingan for the Himig Handog competition.

INTRO: D-A-Em-G (2x)

I.
D A
You can leave me
Em G
Take away all that I have
D A
You can want me
Em G
Love me for who I am

Em A
Choices, romance
Em A
Takin' me high in the air
Em A
Flyin', so scared
Em A A7(once)
Afraid not to see you again

CHORUS:
                     D
'Cause I'm scared to death
             A
Now that I'm losin' you
              Em
I'm scared to death
          G
Knowin' I can't get through
              D
I'm scared to death
            A Em
Living this so lonely life without you
G
Oh baby, I'm scared to death

II. D-A-Em-G

Somethings changin'
Giving me fears run through my head
Only find me
Give me the eyes I will understand
Em A
Words left unsaid
Em A
Leaving me weak in the edge
Em A
Getting over
Em
I'm running scared
A A7(once)
I can't comprehend

CHORUS 2:
D-A-Em-G
'Cause I'm scared to death
Now that I'm losin' you
I'm scared to death
Knowin' I can't get through
I'm scared to death
Living this so lonely life without you
(Yeah-oh) I'm scared to death
Fallin' in love with you
I'm scared to death
There's nothing that I can do
I'm scared to death
What if you won't be around anymore

Em
Slowly
A
Gently
Em A
Choosing me will make me then
Em A
You're one and only
Em A
I pray that our love will begin

'Cause I'm scared to death
Now that I'm losin' you
I'm scared to death
Knowin' I can't get through
I'm scared to death
Living this so lonely life without you
Ohh, I'm scared to death
Na na na na na na
I'm so scared
Na na na na na na
I'm so scared
What if you won't be, won't be around anymore
I'm scared to death

The third reason is the powerhouse supporting cast: Noel Trinidad(since Champoy, hats off),  Menggie Cobarrubias(one of the most underrated great actors), Carla Martinez(was a church mate and even if we're not church mates anymore, I admire her very, very much because she's awesome...I miss singing with her...I doubt if she remembers that we used to sing during the special number during Sunday Service...sometimes it's me...sometimes it's her...sometimes it's Gary V...sometimes it's someone else), Nikki Valdez(this girl can really act...give her any role and she can do it), Nicco Manalo(son of Jose Manalo...I saw him first in American Hwangap...he's more than his father's son), Kitkat(Super talented lady), Empress Schuck(I like the Schuck sisters since they were small and Empress is my favorite), Eda Nolan(a young mom who works hard for her money), Nico Antonio(who was so good as the Young Alex de Lara in Dugong Buhay), Beauty Gonzalez(flexible...could be sultry or homely depending on the role), Bodjie Pascua(I admired him since Batibot days), Nor Domingo(funny, but deep guy), Ariel Ureta(what can I say? He's really one of the best), Jon Achaval(could be sinister and nice at the same time), Manuel Chua(you can love him or hate him...yes, another versatile actor), Maliksi Morales(is more than his brother's brother...he holds promise), Hyubs Azarcon(another versatile actor who can either make you laugh or cry), Joe Vargas(this guy is really funny...yes, he's a versatile actor too), Dimples Romana(who I believe is beautiful inside and out...she's one of the best actors in the silver screen and idiot box)  and Allyzon Lualhati. When she was a little girl I thought she was going to be a big star one day, but it did not turn out that way...I'm happy she was given good exposure in this film.  I hope more people would give her projects.

Tuhog was written(collaborated with Jinky Laurel) and directed by Veronica B. Velasco.

The style reminds me of the film JOLOGS, but this one is even better(and I liked Jologs).

Tuhog will take you for a ride and as you disembark, you will have mixed-feelings--yes, the bittersweet kind--but it will definitely leave an indelible mark in your heart.
