ISA PA, WITH FEELINGS (2019)

Image
Introduction that you may skip: Learning about this movie made me pretty excited to watch it.  It had a different concept, and I was prepared to cry a lot.  I was told that for me not to shed tears in a movie, I should really be armed with lots of tissues. Dang.  Even with all the preparations, I still cried.  You see, my maternal grandmother was deaf, and she could only hear us with a hearing aid.  Since I was little I was scared of being deaf, so I prepared for "it" with the hope by preparing I won't ever go deaf. I served in the Deaf Ministry for a couple of years, but when my mom and I started fighting because of the things she misinterpreted, I told myself I should stop serving because it would make me look like a hypocrite, even if I am not. I do miss them a lot, but I would rather serve in different ways. One Small Hitch (2013)

Image
Publicity poster for the film, One Small Hitch. From Imdb Director: John Burgess Writer: Dode B. Levenson What can I say?  I like this movie.  If I didn't like it, then why would I watch it two whole times?  It had some hitches(not just one---hahaha---oh, only one was small), yes, and maybe I would've want some of the situations to be different, but those wrong decisions kind of made this movie exciting. I love the chemistry between SHANE MCRAE AND AUBREY DOLLAR.   There were many, many stories with the kind of relationship they have, and even in real life, I know a lot of people's relationships transcend to a higher level, and have loved each other even beyond death. Their kind of love is beautiful.  It may have started as a sham,  but I like how their love grew, and how the sham became real. There are many stories too that have started from a small stitch to knots, to weaves, to cardigans, to woven blankets, to tangled webs, to untangled

Basing on the pilot episode or world premiere plus tonight's episode, so far so good! #BeautifulJustice

Encantadia ended while they were still ahead. Yes, even when the ratings of the said show were definitely much higher than FPJ's ANG PROBINSYANO, and it is mentioned in the article  written by  James Patrick Anarcon  wh

A CHRISTMAS SNOW (2010)

Image
Photo from imdb warning: could contain spoilers, depending on what spoilers are for you This is a wonderful movie with a sad theme, but somehow it still brings the true spirit of Christmas.   The actors are great, especially CAMERON TEN NAPEL who played Lucy like she's a pro.   She's not so active anymore as an actor, and probably because she's busy with school.  She's about to turn twenty, and so I hope after she's graduated from the university she may find her way back to acting again.  Her last project was when she was thirteen, as a child computer voice. 🎄🎄🎄 Even if it brings out the true spirit of Christmas the theme is not so Christmassy enough(because the central character is Grinch like or Scrooge like), but it does talk about the "100% true" Nativity Story plus a week later, Simeon's story of salvation.   It's nice to see ANTHONY TYLER QUINN here as the man who gave meaning to the central character's life.  He

Dodjie Simon's A.I. HACKED

Image
source Elzar "Dodjie" Simon is not really a stranger to me.  He was my brother's boss in ATI, and he was one of the many invited guests who was able to celebrate with us during my brother and sister-in-law's wedding in 1998.  My brother only has praises for him. I was excited to meet him again last 14 July 2016, but it coincided with CURTAINS UP , so I just joined my family in Spirit. A.I. HACKED The book has been receiving rave reviews ever since it was launched so when I saw on the author's FB page that he was having a book signing event at Fully Booked's The Studio at 11th Street, BGC, I was psyched.  A few days after I learned about it my brother announced that we were going, and he has already ordered one paperback and one hardbound.  I thought one was mine, but it turned out it was for my dad, but it's OK.  My parents live with me, and my dad read books one-by-one, and now he is still reading my former Pastor(Richard Mirpuri)'s Glimp

INDAK(2019): Now this is a movie we should write about

Image
source Directed by Paul Alexei Basinillo Writing Credits (in alphabetical order) Paul Alexei Basinillo, and Juvy Galamiton  Kim Noromo ... (screenplay) Regene Estolatan, Paul Alexei Basinillo, and Rhadson Mendoza ... (story) There are very few local dance films that I still cherish until this very day: HATAW NA! (1995),  HOTSHOTS (1984), SWING IT...BABY(1978), BAYARANG PUSO(1996), 14 Going Steady(1984),  and maybe I could include CAMPUS BEAT(1984). There are many movies that are musicals that involve a lot of dancing, and one of them that is an all-time favourite of mine is ANG LARAWAN , and another is EMIR , which I think is one of the best ever produced. INDAK  is the latest addition to my very short list.  It's not perfect, but I like its style, approach, and treatment. I like how the actors acted, and I love how hard they prepared for this movie mentally, spiritually, physically, emotionally, et cetera. I guess my only complaint is that

Snowcapped Christmas (2016) a.k.a. Falling for Christmas

Image
From imdb Directed by Christie Will Wolf Written by Barbara Kymlicka note:  The Director's daughter, Amélie Will Wolf, has a cameo as the cute five-year-old Claire Benson.  Blaine Anderson plays her dad. After watching back-to-back The Cutting Edge series just recently(a few months ago) where I only loved the first( starring DB Sweeney and Moira Kelly ), which, by the way, I watched SEVERAL times before, I thought I had enough of Ice Skating love stories(Figure Skater/Hockey Player) for the moment(I will never get tired of Ice Skating movies, and movies with horses).  Gee, I was wrong.  I found myself being drawn to this.   My contemporaries, LOCHLYN MUNRO and LISA WHELCHEL are in this made for TV movie, so it kind of made me more interested, but NIALL MATTER and GRACYN SHINYEI also added icing to the already delicious cake. As for LEAH RENEE, well, I'm not so much of a fan, but I don't dislike her. She's a good actor, and I guess she pulled it off.

FAMILY HISTORY (2019)

Image
( source ) Written and Directed by MICHAEL V When plans for the day did not come to fruition, dad, mom, and I decided to watch a movie instead.  We've seen most of the blockbusters, and the others were Horror Flicks(not really our cups of tea, with some exceptions, of course) so we were left with no choice  but to watch FAMILY HISTORY. Boy, were we surprised. The style and treatment were done before, but we were so impressed by the flow of the story, the acting, the injection of graphic arts, the cinematography, et cetera , most especially the direction.  The topics aren't new, and  they are all very relatable, but how the characters dealt with the different situations proves that the writer/director/producer/composer, MICHAEL V, is a genius. DAWN ZULUETA, KAKAI BAUTISTA, MIGUEL TAN FELIX, BIANCA UMALI, PAOLO CONTIS, JOHN ESTRADA, EUGENE DOMINGO, DINGDONG DANTES, MIKOY MORALES, NIKKI CO, JEMWELL VENTINILLA, VINCE GAMAD, and NONIE BUENCAMINO, played very i

Sailing Into Love (2019)

Image
From imdb This movie, besides being a love story, is about fighting for what we believe in, especially when we know we are in the right.   For me this movie is very timely because of all the hullaballoo happening around me.   Sometimes I cringe when people congratulate me for what I "did", as if it's something great, but I did what I did, and I said what I said.  I won't take back what I said. ON MAKING A STAND BECAUSE I LOVE GOD AND OUR PARISH COMMUNITY PRAYER VIGIL THE MOVIE CHRIS MCNALLY(Lt. Cdr. Tom Hastings) and LEAH RENEE(Claire Richards) look visually beautiful together, but many people said they had a hard time listening to Ms. Renee because of her squeaky voice. Acting wise, they both did great.  If they are not a real life couple, they sure made me believe that they are in love, or at the very least, super attracted to each other. I like that the viewers who usually complain about Hallmark's style of "cliff

Glimpses of Grace

Image
With Tita Lillian Mirpuri, Pastor Dick's wife My former Pastor, Richard "Dick" Mirpuri, wrote this wonderful book. Life wasn't always a bed of roses, and if it was, there were lots of thorns in it.  For a first attempt in writing a book, and according to him, it could very well be his last, he was able to share his life's journey and the lessons he has learned along the way. There are many practical, touching, and spiritual lessons, and what's nice about it, is that even if it leads the reader to humility, it also makes the reader realise the bountiful graces of God. He tackled about money as a tool for the work of God.   I remember some of the teachings in the past that it's the LOVE for money that is the root of all evil, and not money in itself. He also talked about striving true riches, after all, where your heart is, there your heart will be. We must seek first the kingdom and His righteousness, and everything else will follow...will be

After the Ball (2015)

Image
From imdb After the Ball, a retail fairy tale set in the world of fashion. Kate's dream is to design for couturier houses. Although she is a bright new talent, Kate can't get a job. No one trusts the daughter of Lee Kassell, a retail guru who markets clothes "inspired" by the very designers Kate wants to work for. Who wants a spy among the sequins and stilettos? Reluctantly, Kate joins the family business where she must navigate around her duplicitous stepmother and two wicked stepsisters, but with help from a prince of a guy in the shoe department, a god-brotherly gay pal in the design office, her godmother's vintage clothes, and a shocking switch of identities, Kate exposes the evil trio, saves her father's company, and proves that everyone can wear a fabulous dress. Written by - KO Fashions This fairytale inspired Canadian Production is surprisingly endearing.  I thought it was just one of those modernised fairytales that you would know exactly wha

Pieces of Easter (2013)

Image
From Amazon.com : All Alza Bennett(CHRISTINA KARIS) wants is to get home to her estranged family for the Easter holiday. An auto mishap en route leaves the high-strung executive more than 700 miles short of her destination and standing on the doorstep of a grizzled, reclusive farmer named Lincoln(JEFFERSON MOORE), whose goal in life is to be left alone. After a deal is struck, the mismatched pair sets out on a three-day odyssey of misadventures along the highways and byways of America where they encounter rat-infested motels, convenience store holdups, rural rabbit stalkers and a starstruck couple from the local trailer park. Best of all, they are forced to encounter each other as the two worlds of the princess and the hermit collide at each and every turn.  Newcomer Christina Karis stars along with writer/director Jefferson Moore in this humorous retelling of The Story of the Prodigal Son, told through the eyes of a young woman looking to make amends while she searches for the
