The Big Short (R 13) 2015

Image
Director: Adam McKay Running time: 2h 10m Box office: 54 million USD Screenplay: Adam McKay, Charles Randolph Cast and Crew We've been duped!  We've been duped perhaps even before we were born.  I've been invited to be a financial adviser by several companies, but I know that this is not my line of expertise plus taxation(and everything connected to it) has always been my Waterloo.  This movie sort of  made me appreciate that world  and I love the way everything was presented.  Yes, they fictionalized some parts, but most of the movie was based on facts.  They added humor to everything and they used celebrities to make those facts easier to understand.   Christian Bale even got the mannerisms of Dr. Mike Burry (who is actually more handsome in real life--- when smiling and not compared to the picture in the article --- compared to how the "makeup artists" made Christian Bale look like). I love the way Marisa Tomei played Cynthia Baum.  Stev

Alvin and the Chipmunks 4: The ROAD CHIP movie (Fast and Furry-ous) G

Poster for the film  Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Road Chip In a NUTshell: Entertaining.  Nothing really new, but there was no dead air.  We were laughing all the way(except for a few dramatic parts). The thing that "enhanced" our enjoyment was where we watched it.  We watched this at the Newport Cinemas-Resorts World Manila .  It has a lounge where moviegoers could wait.  There's free popcorn(that is not too salty and does not stick to the teeth---at least that was what we were served) and great service.  The theater is beautiful and clean.  The sound system is great and once in a while, moviegoers could even win something. Cast Jason Lee  as David "Dave" Seville Tony Hale  as Agent James Suggs Kimberly Williams-Paisley  as Samantha Josh Green as Miles Bella Thorne  as Ashley Grey Eddie Steeples  as Barry Maxie McClintock as Alice Retta  as Party planner Uzo Aduba  as  TSA  officer Mark Jeffrey Miller as Cab driver RedFoo  ( cameo ) as

Macbeth: Warrior King (2015) Rated R for violence

Image
After murdering King Duncan (David Thewlis) and seizing the throne, Macbeth (Michael Fassbender) becomes consumed with guilt and paranoia as the tyrannical ruler of Scotland.-WWW My two cents worth: I like this version.  If I weren't dead tired, I would have been awake all the time.  Thank goodness I could order brewed coffee without going out of the cinema(one of the perks of watching movies at the Director's Club).  As other moviegoers mentioned as we were exiting the cinema, they liked it because the acting was not "theatrical"...when the companion of those who uttered that description asked what they meant, they simply said, "They weren't overacting."  "You mean..." "No, we don't mean that theater actors are overacting, but..." OK.  Even if I didn't even need to do so because they were talking aloud, it seemed like I eavesdropped...  ;-p  For me, the actors played their parts well. I honestly like the

Make Your Move (2013)

Image
This is the United States theatrical release poster for the film  Make Your Move 3D . Star-crossed lovers become embroiled in the bitter rivalry between their brothers' underground dance clubs. -WWW Initial release :  8 August 2013 ( Russia ) Director :  Duane Adler Box office :  1.427 million USD Music composed by :  Michael Corcoran ,  Eric Goldman How do you make a dance flick unique and interesting when there are many predecessors ahead of it?  It's hard, I know.  I almost did not watch this because I thought it was not worth my time.  The story is somehow like the rest, but it does have something to offer.  The intense dance steps and the chemistry between Derek and BoA can be seen on the big screen and it can be felt too.   #CulturalDiversity #DifferentTypesOfDance #Aerials #Acrobatics #TapDancing #JazzEtCetera I admire both Derek and BoA and I hope they would have more projects together. They jell.   💚💜 💕

Extraction (2015)

A government analyst (Kellan Lutz) launches his own rescue mission when terrorists kidnap his father (Bruce Willis), a retired CIA operative. Release date :  March 2, 2016 ( Philippines ) Director :  Steven C. Miller Running time :  1h 23m Music composed by :  Ryan Dodson Screenplay :  Umair Aleem ,  Max Adams Rated R for violence, language throughout and brief sexual content/nudity Certification: Philippines:R-13 / USA:R This is not a worthless movie, because I wouldn't be writing about it if I have nothing good to say, but if you are looking for something new, this is not the movie to watch.  Everything's been said and done.   Although both beautiful in their own right, Gina Carano and Kellen Lutz don't have good chemistry together.  I found their team-up boring and the little black dress was not a bit magical, but it did look good on Carano. Carano is a former mixed martial artist, so her moves were good, but the dia

Legend (2015) The Notorious True Story of the Kray Twins

Image
From the WWW:   Suave, charming and volatile, Reggie Kray (Tom Hardy) and his unstable twin brother Ronnie start to leave their mark on the London underworld in the 1960s. Using violence to get what they want, the siblings orchestrate robberies and murders while running nightclubs and protection rackets. With police Detective Leonard "Nipper" Read hot on their heels, the brothers continue their rapid rise to power and achieve tabloid notoriety The start of the movie with Frances narrating  reminded me of the stories narrated beyond the grave like AMERICAN BEAUTY and some others, but they weren't biopics.  If you followed the lives of Ronnie and Reggie Kray, you would know that Reggie's young bride killed herself in the 1960s at the age of 24. More than thirty years later, one of the twins died and a little later, the other died too(just more than a decade ago) so you would really wonder why Frances was narrating the story. The first parts of the story

All You Need is PAG-IBIG (2015)

Cinema 9, Festival Supermall This MMFF 2015 is filled with controversies so I wasn't really so keen on seeing the entries much, except for HONOR THY FATHER , #WALANGFOREVER and My BEBE Love #KiligPaMore .  Because of the (seemingly) unfair treatment of the MMFF peeps to #HonorThyFatherakaConMan, I opted to watch this first, unfortunately it wasn't available immediately in cinemas nearby... anyways, let's focus on #AllYouNeedIsPAGIBIG. We never expected to like this film.  For us, it was just a smorgasbord type of movie with too many people in it.  From start to finish we were able to enjoy it.  It's a good thing(sorry Bistek)that Derek Ramsay took over Herbert Bautista's role because I couldn't imagine it otherwise. Kris and Derek really have good rapport.  Kris' son, Bimby acted well. Despite and in spite of Kris' reputation, I think she brought him up well. KimXi fans would not be disappointed, most especially with the scenes shot in the maj

STAR WARS EPISODE VII: The Force Awakens (2015)

THIS NOT REALLY A REVIEW: People were actually "amazed" that I have not seen this blockbuster hit before Christmas because they knew that I was waiting for this since it was announced. It just so happened that I was really very busy with a lot of things that I didn't have the luxury to watch it.  I had a chance once, but due to miscommunication, my companions thought I just wanted to sleep that they watched the movie without me.  What I said was, "If we are going to watch the movie, I'll follow...if not, I'll just sleep." I was willing to wait until the 8th of January, but thanks to Facebook, I learned that the SM Supermalls were showing it via their IMAX Theaters.    I had a great IMAX experience.  I was able to journey with Rey and Finn like they were my close friends.  It was also great to pretend that I was fighting with the resistance. I had cheap thrills seeing Han and Leia embrace. I fought my tears when someone died.  A lot
