Star Cinema's Beauty in a Bottle (2014)

Image
When I first saw the trailer above, I told myself I would definitely watch this.  I thought to myself, I needed a good laugh...something to take the blues away.  What I didn't realize was that this was more than a comedy.  It's a movie with direct and hidden messages...a movie that hits several soft spots...a movie that a lot of people, if not all, could relate to. It's the first time, I think, that I've encountered Antoinette Jadaone, and I must say that she's a very good raconteur and director.  I haven't checked who the casting director is, but I must say that he or she chose the actors well.  From the bit players, to the sorta kinda villains, to the best friends, to the in-laws(future in-laws), families to the main characters, the characters were tailor-made for them.   It was great to see familiar faces that I didn't expect to see. I also was amused that Empress Schuck agreed to play a bitchy version of herself.   Everyone did a good ...

The Trial 2014- R13 (Star Cinema)

filipinasinshowbiz.com "Phenomenal acting. Great story!" "Ms. Gretchen Barretto earns our respect anew!"  17 October 2014 There were many reasons why we were very apprehensive in watching this gem of a film.  We have two special people  in heaven and we did not want to undergo the pain of losing them again. We have let them go, but we did not want to subject ourselves to something that would make us dig up their graves and summon the forces to make their earthy rotted bodies come alive and become the walking dead. I'm exaggerating, of course, but... Another reason was the fact that I was not really fond of Gretchen Barretto.  Why? Let me keep that to myself, but please check what I think of her acting later.   Those two, among other things, were stopping us from seeing this masterpiece, and I'm oh so grateful that we changed our minds. The movie was seamless. Coincidences really happen in life because truth is truly stranger t...

Lost Angel (1943) MGM

Stories about young waifs who are reared to be geniuses have a special place in my heart.  I have written many stories about these prodigies and some have been lost in space(reformatted computers and the like) and some were already submitted somewhere out there. LOST ANGEL is one such story shown decades before I was born.  The role Alpha was tailor-made for then little Margaret O'Brien(who actually is close to the age of my father) who was one of the most popular little girls in Hollywood.    Judy Garland once said when she was being interviewed about her young co-star in MEET ME IN ST. LOUIS that she saw herself in her and she was glad that during Margaret's time, she did not need to take uppers to stay wide awake(she and Andy Rooney were given pills, stunting their growth).  Still,  she was worried that Margaret might miss on her childhood, so as much as she could, she played with her...Thankfully, now at 77, Margaret O'Brien is still very a...

Rush (2013)

Image
http://www.seesawaustin.com/ Cast I watched this movie a total of three times. I felt like I was a part of  their  story too...not just a member of the audience, but it seemed like I was part of their lives. The story was fair to both sides and it was great to  meet  the very philosophical Lauda, his wife Marlene, the people around them, the charismatic (and problematic) James Hunt and the people around him.   Even if James Hunt and Niki Lauda were rivals, there was some kind of verve that connected them to each other and they both knew that very well.  They truly respected each other. Oh, and I agree with the people who have seen this film.  This is Ron Howard's best directorial job ever. Kudos to the writers and the rest of the crew.  Kudos to the cast, most especially to Daniel Brühl, Chris Hemsworth, Olivia Wilde and Alexandra Maria Lara. Congratulations to everyone involved in this film. RUSH: History vs. Hollywood The...

Why? Why? When I got the chance to watch this, I tried to understand, but couldn't.  Maybe I'm just biased, because like what I said before, three of my crushes are in this movie: Nicolas Cage, Josh Lucas and Mark Valley. Sigh... When I watched this for the first tim...

The Contractor (2007)

From Wikipedia Emily Day ( Eliza Bennett ) Directed by Josef Rusnak Written by Robert Foster Joshua Michael Stern Story by Robert Katz Andre Farwagi Starring Wesley Snipes Eliza Bennett Lena Headey Ralph Brown Gemma Jones I'm not really a Wesley Snipes fan(Oh yeah?), but I've seen almost all his films because when I'm stumped or couldn't sleep I turn on the TV and more often than not, I usually find one of his movies "on air".  I either watch it or just let it "play" because of the "much needed" noise. There was one movie that I liked that had him as one of the stars.  It's called TO WONG FOO, THANKS FOR EVERYTHING, JULIE NEWMAR .  He was so beautiful there. (LOL) Anyways, I've got to stop digressing. This movie, THE CONTRACTOR , is sort of an endearing movie because of the friendship of Emily and James.  I like movies like that.  Clean friendship between a child and an older pe...
