Release date: 1965 (Philippines)
I am writing about this beautiful masterpiece by Nick Joaquin because of ANG LARAWAN. I hope a lot of people get to watch this musical based on this masterpiece. It is finally going to be shown this month. I hope it is not only a rumor.
The movie directed by Lamberto V. Avellana in 1964 and released in 1965(well, I'm guessing that's the case) is definitely a classic. Even if it is presented in almost straight English(with some Spanish), the actors speak naturally(some Filipinos talk that way even today). Probably you'd say it's best to compare it to a stage play. Maybe you could say that because it is indeed based on a literary play of the same title. Still, I must say that even if you can say it is "theatrical", it is still very convincing...that these people could probably be the next door neighbours of our ancestors.

The upcoming musical (music by National Artist Rolando Tinio and future National Artist---we have to claim this because he deserves to be one---Maestro Ryan Cayabyab), besides all the great acting, dancing, singing, et cetera, is one of the best adaptations of Nick Joaquin's beautiful, but heart wrenching story. This musical deserves to be seen. This musical deserves to earn, besides accolades, money. It's a work of art, for Pete's sake! #CelesteLegaspi #JoannaAmpil #PauloAvelino #RachelAlejandro #CrisVillonco #Dulce #RobertArrevalo #AngLarawan
