After the Ball (2015)

Image
From imdb After the Ball, a retail fairy tale set in the world of fashion. Kate's dream is to design for couturier houses. Although she is a bright new talent, Kate can't get a job. No one trusts the daughter of Lee Kassell, a retail guru who markets clothes "inspired" by the very designers Kate wants to work for. Who wants a spy among the sequins and stilettos? Reluctantly, Kate joins the family business where she must navigate around her duplicitous stepmother and two wicked stepsisters, but with help from a prince of a guy in the shoe department, a god-brotherly gay pal in the design office, her godmother's vintage clothes, and a shocking switch of identities, Kate exposes the evil trio, saves her father's company, and proves that everyone can wear a fabulous dress. Written by - KO Fashions This fairytale inspired Canadian Production is surprisingly endearing.  I thought it was just one of those modernised fairytales that you would know exactly wha

Pieces of Easter (2013)

Image
From Amazon.com : All Alza Bennett(CHRISTINA KARIS) wants is to get home to her estranged family for the Easter holiday. An auto mishap en route leaves the high-strung executive more than 700 miles short of her destination and standing on the doorstep of a grizzled, reclusive farmer named Lincoln(JEFFERSON MOORE), whose goal in life is to be left alone. After a deal is struck, the mismatched pair sets out on a three-day odyssey of misadventures along the highways and byways of America where they encounter rat-infested motels, convenience store holdups, rural rabbit stalkers and a starstruck couple from the local trailer park. Best of all, they are forced to encounter each other as the two worlds of the princess and the hermit collide at each and every turn.  Newcomer Christina Karis stars along with writer/director Jefferson Moore in this humorous retelling of The Story of the Prodigal Son, told through the eyes of a young woman looking to make amends while she searches for the

I Do bidoo bidoo: Heto nAPO sila (2012)

Image
I originally wrote this 30 August 2012, but I updated it on 14 June 2019.  I updated it more on 18 June 2019. From imdb Written and Directed by CHRIS MARTINEZ as inspired by the music of The APO Hiking Society This is the promotional poster for Unitel and Studio 5's I Do Bidoo Bidoo starring Sam Concepcion, Tippy Dos Santos, Eugene Domingo, Gary V., Ogie Alcasid, Zsa Zsa Padilla The first time I've seen this almost seven years ago I was deeply impressed because even if the movie is a musical comedy, the flow of the story was...is almost seamless.  The songs of course were very familiar, but I was careful not to sing in the theatre.  I am still traumatised (I should be over this, I know, but not until I find out if the aggrieved party has forgiven me) because I thought I wasn't too audible I sang with someone doing a solo number.  She felt more than slighted.  In Filipino I could say nabastos ko siya .  Google translates it to I made her upset, but it&

Wedding March 5: My Boyfriend's Back (2019)

Image
From The Hallmark Channel Director: Mike Rohl Writer: Kim Beyer-Johnson Wow.  So far, so good.  This is my favourite among all The Wedding March instalments.  There's just something so real between CINDY BUSBY and TYLER HYNES.  LANE EDWARDS and SUNITA PRASAD also have something beautiful between them.  Nothing between the two couples look forced.   The wedding itself was beautiful.  Is that a spoiler?  No.  Not really.  We know that the wedding would happen.  What we do not know are the things in between, and I'm glad they pulled it off. The Inn still looks glorious as ever, and it was great reminiscing about my Wedding Planning days with with a couple of friends, and some I did with a group of people.  I also did some hosting... Going back to the movie, even if it's quite predictable, I loved the flow of the story, and to reiterate for emphasis,  I really felt the love between Brad(that name again) and Annalisse because of the very believable acting

Three Weeks, Three Kids (2011)

Image
Both photos are from imdb Directed by  Mark Jean Writing Credits   Jean Abounader (story) & J.B. White (story)   J.B. White (teleplay) This movie was literally SHELVED for the longest time, until today.  I just didn't have the energy to watch something so SHALLOW, so I thought. This movie is not shallow at all.  Yes, it was very OBVIOUS that the younger sister played by ANNA CHLUMSKY would eventually grow up, and that neighbour of her Big Sister, Mandy(CHELAH HORSDAL), as played by WARREN CHRISTIE, would be her future beau because her dunce of a boyfriend(JESSE HUTCH) did not deserve her attention. Still there were surprises here and there. The problems of the kids are nothing new, and so were the solutions, but I like how this movie was acted by the ensemble. As for Mandy and her loving husband, Brian(WILLIAM DEVRY), they had some romance to be rekindled, so it could be said that they had to do something about that too. Predictable?  Yes,

Jack and Sarah (1995)

Image
From imdb also from imdb Even in 1995 the story wasn't anything new.  I know some people in real life that met "this way", and it's somewhat predictable. What makes this movie great then?  The actors, and the treatment, and the awesome ending. I have seen this in the 1990s, but I must say that I appreciated this more tonight. SOPHIA TURNER (Baby Sarah) is at least 23 years old now, but she'll always be remembered as the adorable toddler who brightened everyone's day. RICHARD E. GRANT plays Jack so effectively that I was crying with him, getting drunk with him, feeling elated with him, et cetera.  When he realised how important Baby Sarah is to him, I felt...feel the love he has for her. Even if he's unrelated to the guy who kinda looks like him, and shares the same last name, he, at the very least, has the same acting ability...some debate/argue/discuss about who is better than the other, but let's not go there.  🚼🚼🚼

Aladdin (2019) Disney's Live Action Movie

Image
source Yes, like many of you, I still love the animated version much, much, much better than the live action one, but there are good points: NAOMI SCOTT's rendition of Speechless in this movie rendered me speechless in a positive way.  It was a stupendous performance, and the lyrics are thought-provoking. Lyrics Here comes a wave Meant to wash me away A tide that is taking me under Swallowing sand Left with nothing to say My voice drowned out in the thunder But I won't cry And I won't start to crumble Whenever they try To shut me or cut me down   I won't be silenced You can't keep me quiet Won't tremble when you try it All I know is I won't go speechless   'Cause I'll breathe When they try to suffocate me Don't you underestimate me 'Cause I know that I won't go speechless   Written in stone Every rule, every word Centuries old and unbending Stay in your place Better seen and not heard But now that story is endi
