The Last Word (2017) R-13

Harriet Lauler (Shirley MacLaine), a once-sucycessful businesswoman, works with young local writer Anne Serman (Amanda Seyfried) to pen her life story. When the initial result doesn't meet Lauler's high expectations, she sets out to reshape the way she'll be remembered, dragging Anne along as an unw illing accomplice. As their journey unfolds, the two women develop a strong bond which not only alters Harriet's legacy but also Anne's future.-WWW (source) Seyfried, MacLaine and Dixon The story is not entirely new and so is Ms MacLaine's character(is she typecast or something?), but I like the movie...well, maybe not everything, especially the cussing, but somehow I get why those expletives "had" to be uttered(Hmmm...am I warming up to someone or something???? Non sequitur). Both MacLaine and Seyfried produced this film, so they are on equal footing, but you cannot discount the vibrance of the child actor named Anne Jewel Lee Dixon.  S...

A Dog's Purpose (2017) -Parental Guidance

Have boxes of tissues ready #talksaboutanimalreincarnation #adogspurpose #baileysjourney #elliesstory #tinosstory #buddysstory When I deleted my personal blog or my online journal, I also deleted my very personal "experience" watching Marley & Me. Watching this movie is like that experience, only three times over.  It also felt like watching "Fluke" all over again.  Bailey(a.k.a.Boss Dog), Ellie and Tino had to leave or crossover, breaking the hearts of the people "they" owned or their partners or their packs. As Bailey, Bailey, Bailey journeyed and found his "Buddy" Ethan and the older version of Hannah(Peggy Lipton looks very young for seventy---I joked  that maybe a life without Quincy Jones is stress free---but hey, I am REALLY just kidding---peace to everybody who loves Quincy Jones), I was crossing my fingers  that Ethan would know that Buddy and Bailey are one and the same. Sigh... The movie is well-acted a...

Kong: Skull Island (PG-13) 2017- Fantasy/Science fiction film (It should be R-13)

Image
( source ) Parents need to know that  Kong: Skull Island  is a very violent, action-packed reboot of the King Kong story. Set in the 1970s, the movie follows a group of scientists on a mission to survey a mysterious island in Southeast Asia. That's where they encounter several dangerous giant creatures, including an ape trying to protect his habitat (there are also giant birds, a spider, an octopus, and reptilian creatures). Things get pretty brutal, with victims being dismembered, stomped on, eaten, and tossed around; helicopters also crash and are ripped apart. So you can expect a high body count, with scene after scene of jump-worthy action, death, and gore. The language can also be strong, with one use of "f--k," plus several uses of "s--t," "ass," "bitch," etc. There's also some social drinking, but sex is limited to embraces and very brief implied prostitution in a couple of scenes set in Vietnam and Thailand.  Tom Hiddleston ,...

Before I Fall (2017)

I first saw Zoey Deutsch in Beautiful Creatures(just the trailer...I wanted to watch it, but I don't remembered what happened...I'll probably just get the DVD or something), but I did not have the slightest idea that she is Lea Thompson's daughter.  In a way that's good because she is recognized because of her individuality and not because she's the daughter of someone famous. My friend(one of the two companions I have seen this with) chose this movie for our monthly date during my birthday month.  It's like Groundhog Day/12:01/Sliding Doors(this is more of a multiverse thing)/ If Only and so much more.  Even the animation series of Disney Channel, Totally Spies, has a version of this theme. Even if the theme is not new, I like the way it was told.  Every actor was convincing.  It had cheesy parts, but there were lots of exciting parts too. In a way, I envied Samantha.  She was given a chance to redo things over and over again, but I wouldn't want ...
