The emotions are real.  Gabe and Karen don't really need Tom and Beth in their lives, but they love them, so they worry about them. Dennis is Gabe and Gabe is Dennis.  Andie is Karen and Karen is Andie. What about Greg Kinnear?  Did he portray Tom like it was suited for him like a T?  Well, yes!  I wanted to throw my shoes at him.  Yes.  He played the role of an a-hole so well that you would think he's like that in real life. The story is nothing new, but the acting was good. There was no conflict, except for proximity, and nowadays, it's rarely a problem anymore. I can't say I love it, but I like it very much.
