CONTRA MUNDUM(Defy the World): ANG LARAWAN, The Musical (Parental Guidance)

Image
From Google images For non-Filipino speakers, there are English Subtitles # contramundum   # defytheworld   # showlarawansomelove The 1965 movie was in full English with some Spanish and it left a deep mark in my heart.  Even if I was never deprived of love lives through the years, right now, I am over the hill and considered a spinster by a lot of condescending and "caring" people alike, so I really found Tony Javier's character deplorable.  In the musical movie that almost was not shown during the Metro Manila Film Festival 2017 even if it was critically acclaimed elsewhere, Tony Javier is still an a-hole, and that same a-hole was personified by Paulo Avelino. The Late National Artist Rolando S. Tinio's Screenplay makes the audience feel that every scene is real, so what if a character breaks into song once in a while?  There were funny and witty lines too.  Even if it was faithful to the National Artist, Nick Joaquin's origi...

Dinner With Friends (2001)

Image
Directed by Norman Jewison Produced by Patrick Markey Written by Donald Margulies (play/teleplay) Dennis Quaid  as Gabe Andie MacDowell  as Karen Greg Kinnear  as Tom Toni Collette  as Beth I cannot criticise this story ever.  It has claimed many awards and the actors are very talented.  They are very believable.  It is Rated-R for language, but the scenes are almost wholesome if this were a silent movie. The emotions are real.  Gabe and Karen don't really need Tom and Beth in their lives, but they love them, so they worry about them. Dennis is Gabe and Gabe is Dennis.  Andie is Karen and Karen is Andie. What about Greg Kinnear?  Did he portray Tom like it was suited for him like a T?  Well, yes!  I wanted to throw my shoes at him.  Yes.  He played the role of an a-hole so well that you would think he's like that in real life. What about Toni Collette?  She's perfect for the ...

After reuniting with her high school sweetheart and spending an emotional Christmas with her family, she must decide if she will stay in her hometown and takeover her father’s practice. Stars  Brooke Nevin ,  Steve Byers  and  Patrick Duffy . - The Hallmark Channel Directed by John Bradshaw Writing Credits  Lewis Chesler ... (story) (as Lewis B. Chesler) & Chris Moreira ... (story) Marcy Holland ... (written by) This is just a light holiday movie, and if you are not looking for anything cryptic/mysterious/macabre, this is for you. The story is nothing new, but the acting was good. There was no conflict, except for proximity, and nowadays, it's rarely a problem anymore. I can't say I love it, but I like it very much. If you like, you can check the movie out yourself:   The Movie Thanks for your t...

Star Wars Episode 8: The Last Jedi (2017) Rated G (Not really a review)

( source ) ( source ) Rey develops her newly discovered abilities with the guidance of Luke Skywalker, who is unsettled by the strength of her powers. Meanwhile, the Resistance prepares to do battle with the First Order.-WWW Director: Rian Johnson Music composed by: John Williams Screenplay: Rian Johnson Whew.  Finally, I've seen episode 8.  My nephew wanted to watch it with us and we had to see it together for the first time, so we won't spoil anything for him.  We watched it on his birthday, which was yesterday...well, a few hours ago.   Is this really Rated G?  I'll still go with PG, but hey, the kids understood it and they enjoyed it.  We enjoyed this as well. There are a few people who were not contented of the outcome of this movie, but I know a lot of people who have seen this a gazillion times.  Of course, I am exaggerating.  My point is, they watched it more than once. There are many funny an...

Agatha Christie's Murder on the Orient Express (2017) PG

How Faithful Is  Murder on the Orient Express  to Agatha Christie’s Classic Detective Novel? A Breakdown (warning, the link has spoilers). A lavish trip through Europe quickly unfolds into a race against time to solve a murder aboard a train. When an avalanche stops the Orient Express dead in its tracks, the world's greatest detective -- Hercule Poirot -- arrives to interrogate all passengers and search for clues before the killer can  strike again. -WWW Directed by: Kenneth Branagh Screenplay: Michael Green Music by: Patrick Doyle Distributed by: 20th Century Fox Agatha Christie is one of my favourite authors.  Miss Marple and Monsieur Poirot were part of my growing up years alongside the Stratemeyer Syndicate's  Carolyn Keene's NANCY DREW.  Murder on the Orient Express is one of the memorable ones, except some of the scenes of the book and the 1974 movie are quite hazy or I have mixed up the scenes already. Honestly, when I wa...

Trip Ubusan (The Lolas vs. Zombies) Graded A ---2017 (Parental Guidance)

Archie Adamos,  Jhayvot Galang, Arthur Solinap, Lovely Abella, Angelika Dela Cruz, Taki Saito, Kenneth Medrano, Ryzza Mae Dizon, Miggy Tolentino, Shaira Mae Dela Cruz, Jose Manalo, Wally Bayola, Paolo Ballesteros and Caprice Cayetano ( source ) Writers: Raymund Navarro -   story (also known for Kapitan Awesome) Ma. Acy Q. Ramos - screenplay (also known for With A Smile, Princess in the Palace, etc.)    Mark A. Reyes V is a very versatile director.  He is able to direct movies, TV Shows, TV series or whatever else without being stuck in one genre.   Trip Ubusan is supposed to be a parody or a spoof of TRAIN TO BUSAN,  but like some of the critics or reviewers described, it's more than that. Of course, I had to see it for myself.  Would I have a different opinion or would I agree with them?   After watching it I agree with them. The movie is not just about laughs or scary zombies, it's...

Read Zack Snyder’s version   a Fueled by his restored faith in humanity and inspired by Superman's selfless act, Bruce Wayne enlists newfound ally Diana Prince to face an even greater threat. Together, Batman and Wonder Woman work quickly to recruit a team to stand against this newly awakened enemy. Despite the formation of an unprecedented league of heroes -- Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg and the Flash -- it may be too late to save the planet from an assault of catastrophic proportions. -WWW Initial release: 16 November 2017 (Denmark) Director: Zack Snyder Film series: Justice League Film Series No.  I won't lie.  I did enjoy this film and had fun watching it with my family. We like it the way it is.  If we did not know Mr. Snyder's "thoughts", we would be content with it.  Now that we know, I want to see how Zack Snyder envisioned it.  If you click the link above, there'll be spoilers, but it's interesting to note all that.
