The Minions (2015) imho: Strong Parental Guidance (PG)

Image
( source ) ( source ) Evolving from single-celled yellow organisms at the dawn of time, Minions live to serve, but find themselves working for a continual series of unsuccessful masters, from T. Rex to Napoleon. Without a master to grovel for, the Minions fall into a deep depression. But one minion, Kevin, has a plan; ac companied by his pals Stuart and Bob, Kevin sets forth to find a new evil boss for his brethren to follow. Their search leads them to Scarlet Overkill, the world's first-ever super-villainess.-WWW It took me a while before watching this film.  If I didn't get an sms from my dear friend, Vecca(hopefully she did not feel slighted when I didn't know it was her who texted me---since I have a new phone, I lost my contacts), I wouldn't push myself(and my mom) to watch this last night(dad's evening meeting ended a little past nine in the evening so we watched the 6:50PM showing). I received mixed reviews.  My brother, my sister-in-...

What a Girl Wants (2003)

Image
( source ) When I saw the trailer the first time twelve years ago, I was so excited to see this.  Besides being an Amanda Bynes' film, it was about a daughter longing for her father, so she searches for him.  She didn't have the slightest idea what kind of life he was living and got the surprise of her life when she found out he's royalty. I'm proud to say that I'm daddy's girl.  My dad's not perfect, but he loves me and I love him.  I am very grateful that I did not need to undergo what Daphne underwent while growing up.  Dad never became an absentee father(more often than not, he brings the whole family during his schooling abroad, etc.) and even if my childhood wasn't perfect, he and my mom made sure it was going to be awesome.  No one was going to be spoiled or anything like that, but we would surely enjoy our childhood.  My childhood's filled with bittersweet memories, but I had lots and lots of fun.  I learned a lot too. Now b...

Just Like Heaven (2005) ---another film I watch over and over agan

(click this if you want to purchase the poster from the source) Sometimes you just " know it " by a mere touch of the hand   ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ Have you ever wondered why there are times when you meet someone for the first time that there is an unexplained connection between the two of you?  There are times you feel that you have seen that person before and if you haven't, you wonder why you are drawn to that person? Some get freaked out when they think people are just giving them pickup lines when they say, "I've seen you in my dreams."  I can't blame them because more often than not, they, the speakers, I mean, are indeed just uttering a line  or something. When two people are meant to be, no matter what the odds are, they will be together. This is what happened with Elizabeth and David. It's a ten-year-old movie.  I wonder if I should give spoilers or not.  Anyways, in Elizabeth's case, Elizabeth dreamed of a beautiful garden. How ...

George R.R, Martin's A SONG OF ICE AND FIRE series

Image
Call me a late bloomer and I won't care.  I did not jump the bandwagon and took my time until I got really, really curious.  I only watched the Original Series by HBO sporadically because I found it too violent, but once I opened the first book owned by my sister-in-law: A Game of Thrones , I got hooked.  True, it's still very violent, but somehow, I appreciated why it is violent.  Besides, there is more to the story(stories) than sheer violence. George R. R. Martin will make you believe that everything he has written may have happened in the past.  True, these are all works of fiction, but you would be too swept away to realize all these things because he mixes history, alchemy, other forms of magic, the different realms of earth, science fiction and what have you.   All books were purchased at Fully Booked Below I'll just mention my favorite characters or else these  reviews  will be as long as the books or even longer than the books the...

Bituing Walang Ningning--The Musical (2015)

Image
30 years ago I watched the Christopher De Leon/Sharon Cuneta/Cherie Gil blockbuster hit, BITUING WALANG NINGNING , countless times.  The lines were great, most especially the ones Lavinia uttered: You are nothing but a second-rate, trying hard, copycat!  That classic line became controversial so people held their breath if Ms. Cris Villonco would be able to say it as Lavinia in BITUING WALANG NINGNING-THE MUSICAL.  The line was Ms. Gil's own and was not included in the original screenplay(not even in the comic book series).  Thank goodness, it was settled, so we were able to hear the iconic  line.  :-) (Congratulations, Ms. Cherie Gil, for winning the coveted Best Actress trophy at the Madrid Film Festival!#IFFMADRIDWINNER2015 ) In 2006 I was excited when Sarah Geronimo was given a chance to have her own interpretation of playing Dorina Pineda.   The series was a hit, but I was sad that Nico and Dorina did not end up with each other bec...
