Horton Hears a Who! (The Philosophical Dr. Seuss) 2008

Image
MY OPINION: When the movie started, I was hooked. The animation/CGI was so REAL... it seemed soooo real until the animals started talking. The characters were funny and the scenes were delightful, but boy! The movie was a philosophical one. A person's a person no matter how small... But for Kangaroo (Carol Burnett), the self-proclaimed Queen of Horton's jungle, Horton's behavior is unacceptable. "If you can't see, hear, or feel something," she says, "it doesn't exist." To believe in a tiny world on a speck of dust is absolutely ridiculous. To share that belief is to undermine the existence of the "real" world they all live in. And to let Horton continue spreading the idea that there is any other reality beyond their own is something she is not willing to do. Wow! The movie is PRO-LIFE! I'm still at the edge of my Young Adult Ministry Years (SINGLES 39 below) and though I haven't done anything for Y-f

Tokyo Godfathers (another Satoshi Kon Film) 2003

Middle-aged alcoholic Gin (Toru Emori), teenage runaway Miyuki (Aya Okamoto) and former drag queen Hana (Yoshiaki Umegaki) are a trio of homeless people surviving as a makeshift family on the streets of Tokyo. While rummaging in the trash for food on Christmas Eve, they stumble upon an abandoned newborn baby in a trash bin. With only a handful of clues to the baby's identity, the three misfits search the streets of Tokyo for help in returning the baby to its parents.-WWW Tokyo Godfathers- 東京ゴッドファーザーズ Tōkyō Goddofāzāzu ,  though very, very different,  kind of reminded me of Three Men and a Baby (and its sequel). There were a lot of Asian films (including Filipino Films) that had this plot too, but I must say that there is something about Satoshi Kon's (and Keiko Nobumoto's) style that enthralls me. Twists and turns are exciting (the scenes were unpredictable). The movie starts with a Christmas service where the Pastor gives them a homily. After-which, the ho

Chichiro, a skinny, but cute, ten-year-old girl and her parents were transferring to a new home. She didn't like the idea of living there that she kept on complaining and whining. When they were kind of near the place .her adventurous father thought of taking a shortcut, but unfortunately, they got lost. Everything was giving Chichiro the creeps. They entered a tunnel to find out a bizarrely interesting little town. Her mom and dad got excited. They tried to convince Chichiro that everything was alright. The town looked inhabited, but the there were no people in the streets....Her father and mother saw "free" food then ate away. Chichiro was uneasy that she decided to walk around the place. The place made her shudder, but she continued her "sleuthing". When night was about to fall, Haku, a cute young boy meets her at the bridge. He warns her then she runs back to her folks...when she returns she finds her parents turned into pigs...now how would she break t

Embedded videos of Why Can't It Be? and All I need are found below Like the movie's tag line "Love comes in unexpected packages" my loving this movie was so unexpected. I didn't plan to see this film ever since it was promoted. Why? Even if I like both Marian Rivera (Grace) and Richard Gutierrez (Evo), I just didn't see any chemistry while watching the trailer (not that the trailer isn't any good). The plot also made me cringe inside. There's that unspoken rule between CLOSE friends/siblings/CLOSE relatives, right? Weeks passed since it opened and still I didn't even have a tinge of desire to watch it.  Why did I watch it? YOU CAN SKIP THIS PART IF YOU WANT TO: When I woke up this morning I didn't even realize I was going to see this film. I worked a little, checked some email, posted some pictures, then tried to take a nap while Eat Bulaga was "on air" (although I was enjoying Aling Melissa's "game" I
